SarahB Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005
Someone told a story of some little kids on a playground. Mormons went up to them and were trying to tell them about Mormonism and stuff. The little girl said "Well, my church is 2,000 years old and Jesus made it. How about you?" The Mormons walked away... I thought that was so cool.
Leave it to the kids to say what most adults would be too afraid to say. But anyway.....I've never had Mormons come to my door. JW's, yes. Mostly we just don't answer the door because the neighbors will call and alert the whole block. I did once try to read the Book of Mormon, though. I started taking notes about all the stuff you could tell was totally ripped off from the Old Testament and the New Testament and just jumbled around, and all the stuff was just plain wrong. After awhile, I just threw it away because it was so insane.
1337 k4th0l1x0r Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 I know it's a bad show, but if you ever get a chance to see the South Park episode on Mormons, watch it.
Didacus Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 You know, I've been following this thread all day (not much else to do...) and I have abstained from commenting but... I just cannot resist. Am I the only one who finds some comments in here as uncharitable? i had several friends who left the church to become mormons or JWs and back again, and what they told me when they came back sorta stuck with me. They had come to me first amongst all our other friends to try and make me join their new church, why? Because they knew that if they came to me I wouldn't make fun of them for their decision. A lot of these church members (JWs and Mormons and others) are struggling with a lot of deep seeded questions and it is a struggle for many of them. Ujncharitable comments can be very hurtful. Sorry for the interuption... feel free to carry on... God bless you all.. and to all, good night.
Theoketos Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 (edited) Um, While I think that for the most part this thread has been charitiable, I think it could easily go over board. So please be cautious. It is good to be skeptical of false reasoning and untrue religions, but it can be done in a positive and loving manner. (Much like Laudate Dominum did). At the same time, we should ecourage them to be Christian, as they most often lack a valid baptism. Remember Charity in everything. Edit I just read what Didicus wrote...I agree. SarahB Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 I used to be nice and talk to them until they started coming to my house at 830 in the morning trying to get me to come to one of their meetings. The ones around here just don't get the message that I'm Catholic, I'm happy with that and I don't want to go to their meetings. If I pass them on the street on my way to work I say hi and I'll take the stuff they give to me. I'm not rude, I just don't want them coming to my house all the time trying to recruit me.

It sounds like... a pet name of some sort. ____________________ Don't worry, Didacus corp. will be sending you your free T-shirt nonetheless and God bless.... DeeDee Posted August 12, 2005 Author Posted August 12, 2005 I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound uncharitable when I posted this topic. I have always been curious about the Mormons, because I really didn't know anything about them. So, when they called I took them up on their offer to explain their religion to me. I found it fascinating, but I have to say . . . . different. They are very serious about their faith, and I give them 100% credit for their dedication to evangelizing especially. Other Christians can learn from them in that respect. Didacus Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Well, I think in retrospec I was a little quick to comment. I have done much worse myself in the past, and overall, the thread is not all that bad. However, when you look at it, it seems it about sharing stories of how the mormons wherer turned around, and alughing at the situations. I'm certain the mormons would share a different take of the events.
desertwoman Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Where do yall guys live with this influx of Mormon knocking? Its.....its.....baffling....but yet, fascinating.
