Fides_et_Ratio Posted August 14, 2005 Author Posted August 14, 2005 Thanks, cappie! That's what I was looking for... So, if the Assumption was not transferred to a Sunday (i.e., the Sunday Mass at my parish was not in celebration of the Assumption) but there a Mass on Monday (the actual day of the feast)--but it's not noted as even a solemnity (and is being celebrated at the normal daily Mass time which is highly inconvienient for anyone that has to work), and no remarks were made about it being a Holy Day of Obligation, etc. to the congregation, I should consider that a problem, right? My parish is having serious liturgical issues (which the bishop does know about), but I'm trying to keep track in case I ought to write the bishop again... almost 5 months with no changes, and no word from him other than he would "address it" in "due time"... way back in May there was a meeting on proper liturgical celebration for the priests of my diocese, but as it's August now, and things only seem to be getting worse, I'm getting a little antsy.
Lil Red Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005
JUST BEING SAFE -ANYWAY ITS OUR LADY'S DAY SO LETS BE HONOURING HER SPECIAL PREROGATIVE-HER ASSUMPTION THE BEST WAY WE CAN DESPITE THE MODERNISM AND LIBERALSIM AND INTOLERANCE TOWARDS TRADITION AND TRADITIONALISTS IN THE CHURCH WHO ARE TRYING TO HOLD ON TO THE PURITY OF THE FAITH. AVE MARIA, JOSEPH
can you please not type in all caps? thank you
While I respect the decision that was made, I think it sends a mixed message. The Mass has been instituted for our benefit, but when we do something like this we then make Mass convenient for us, rather that to be inconvenienced, for lack of a better word, and have to go to Mass two days in a row. Again, I respect the decision, but I think it sends a mixed message on the importance of the Mass and furthermore on the Eucharist as the source and summit of our lives. Just my .02, take it for what it's worth. BTW, traditional, would you mind not typing in all caps, it makes your posts incredibly difficult to read, and gives the impression that you are constantly yelling. God Bless
speaking from a part of the country where not having enough priests hits us hard, sometimes 1 priest covers 3 towns that are 50 miles apart each (if not more). the bishop can't very well say, "you guys in the city have to go, but the people who are in the rural areas don't have to." so i guess i don't like it, but i understand it.

journeyman Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Isn't Mary the patron saint of the United States? Are the bishops (edited before posting) letting convenience outweigh the respect due one's patron ?
Theoketos Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Anything with a thinly veiled agenda which is not open to the truth is hard for me to read. If some one puts this in caps it is like making it smell as garbage. It is almost as frustrating as the abrogation of feast days. Write your bishops. With Charity and patience.
Tony Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 yeah.. I have always looked forward to those Holy Days.. because its easier to get someone to take me when its a day of obligation, so I hate that they arent obligation days... Oddly enough, I thought the Assumption was exempt from the " It lands on this day so you dont have to go" rule.. like Christmas is, but it was announced that it wasn't I always assumed they would just always leave it as is too (not to sound like a uber-trad or anything.. but that is just heartbreaking)
Noel's angel Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 its a HDO here.... I'm just home from the Vigil Mass.
cappie Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Use this as a special meditation for the day: Meditation
qfnol31 Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 This doesn't always work. I mention this because next year Christmas will fall on a Monday, and it most certainly is a holy day of obligation. It works for the Ascension (Sunday), Assumption, and maybe Mother of God, but not for Immaculate Conception, Christmas, or one more.
journeyman Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I went anyway - found a parish with a 7 pm Mass and went there from work
