azaelia Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I'm with HSM on this one. I consider myself orthodox. Conservative and liberal are political terms, and shouldn't be applied to religion.
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I voted for indult trad.. but I didn't really like any of the options.. I'm with homeschool mama.
Luthien Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Im with everyone else...Im Catholic, Latin Rite...all that.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 well a conservative is someone who is agianst the changes of Vatican II but still adheres to them because they won't "Break" with the church a Neo-conservative is someone who accepts Vatican II and loves it and is a very moral person a liberal is someone who accepts vatican II and is is not a very moral
Socrates Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Loaded options - What's a "Neo-conservative"? I've only heard this word with regards to the Church used by "Ultra-traditionalists" to bash orthodox Catholics who are not Tridentine. I'm an orthodox Catholic.

Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 is it really that obvious?
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 btw are their anyo people on the phorum who support SSPX or similar other group?
azaelia Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005
well a conservative is someone who is agianst the changes of Vatican II but still adheres to them because they won't "Break" with the church a Neo-conservative is someone who accepts Vatican II and loves it and is a very moral person a liberal is someone who accepts vatican II and is is not a very moral
These are your definitions. In my opinion you're either Orthodox, Progressive (Heretical), or Schismatic. Again, conservative and liberal are political terms. By using them we are trying to bring religion into a political arena, which is like trying to put shoes on God's feet.
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005
btw are their anyo people on the phorum who support SSPX or similar other group?
there is a guy names traditional who argues in favour of the SSPX. He doesn't really make any headway around here though..

Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 what if your a catholic who goes to an indult mass and dosen't accept Vatican II as a legitimite council? does that make you schismatic?
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 (edited)
QUOTE(Extra ecclesiam nulla salus @ Aug 17 2005, 07:49 PM) im a rad trad * What does this term mean for you?
it means i support traditional Catholicism. But i still consider myself in the folds of the church and recognize Benedict XVI as soverigen pontiff. Socrates Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 (edited)
well a conservative is someone who is agianst the changes of Vatican II but still adheres to them because they won't "Break" with the church a Neo-conservative is someone who accepts Vatican II and loves it and is a very moral person a liberal is someone who accepts vatican II and is is not a very moral
Again, your definitions are loaded. They are absurdly simplisitic, and set to define things as you wish to define them, rather than as they really are. There are plenty of us "conservative" Catholics who accept Vatican II as a legitmate council of the Church, and accept it's actual teachings, while rejecting abuses falsely carried out in the so-called "spirit of Vatican II," which in fact had nothing to do with what the Council actually taught. One's personal morality actually has nothing to do with whether one is orthodox or conservative. An orthodox Catholic agrees with the teaching authority of the Church (including on moral issues). A "liberal" or dissenting Catholic tends to disagree on (moral and doctrinal) issues which do not suit him. But one can be "liberal," "conservative" or "traditionalist" and still be moral or immoral in his own life (even though this may involve hypocrisy). To say that one's personal moral behavior is the only difference between a "neo-conservative" (whatever that may mean) and a "liberal" is absurd and false, and serves only cloud the actual issues.
