Socrates Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 [quote name='stargirl3:16' date='Aug 22 2005, 03:49 PM']Ok, so I have a $25 gift card for Barnes and Noble. I want to get some books, and so far I want Dark Night of the Soul (only $2.50!) but I don't know what else to get. Any suggestions? JP2Iloveyou Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 If you are a frequent customer, buy a membership. They cost $25.00 and give you an automatic 10% discount plus other little perks. You would have to buy $250.00 worth of merchandise over the course of the year though. But, if you buy your textbooks there, Christmas/birthday presents, etc, it can add up and ultimately you will turn your $25.00 gift into $30.00 or $35.00. Don't do it though if you don't think you will spend $250.00. I'm reading Witness to Hope right now. It is absolutely fantastic. I can't recommend it enough. Another great reference book that every Catholic should have is the Companion to the Catechism. Most people have a copy of the Catechism. The Companion is a book with all of the footnotes the Catechism has. So for example, suppose Paragraphy 854 of the CCC has a footnote to Gaudium et Spes 22. You can go to the Companion, look up Paragraph 854, and actually read GS 22. (I don't really know if 854 quotes GS 22 or not, I'm just giving a random example.)
