"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

A quote that sums up a lot of the Gospel. Now you know what that guy at the football game holding up a John 3:16 sign is about. :D:
amen brother- thats what I figured about microsoft- I didnt buy an xbox to support Bill Gate's weird population control thing that he likes, I bought it to play halo 2 and to pwn n00bs

If ur gonna boy cott u gotta organize it big time otherwise it wont do anything.

Its like if you go to the store, and buy some beans, and you go to the register, pay, and leave, some money from those beans is paying that cashier, and what happens if that cashier just so happens to support an organization like PP or Naral or something like that? do you stop buying beans? You can't control what others do with their money, only pray for them.

I fully disagree.

If you are going to boycott someone it doesn't have to be big. Your logic is the same logic used by people who don't vote because "They are just one person." The logical end of your argument is that everyone will keep buying this or that because, thinking as one person, rather then a person in a community, they would precive the abliity to change anything.

Almost all major movements in the history of the world have been started by one person. What happens is that once one person starts others will take notice.

The diffence between supporting a cashier and supporting a company is huge. For one, I can think of very few times where the views of the clerk are known to be on those issues and it isn't very common to ask about them and even them replies are probly not the most likely thing seeing as how much of a hotbutton issue abortion/etc is. Secondly, I know the views of the company. I know that this or that company supports this or that group, whereas I didn't know with the cashier. I would then be knowingly supporting a group I oppose.

There are times when you are forced into support a company, like Microsoft. Due to its evilness, you almost have to use Windows. But on things like game platforms and coffee, easily lived with out, I see no cause.

:( I can't stand it some days, ugh, people get mad at us for being catholiscand being outward with it and then they go and put things like that on starbucks cups! :ohno: This cannot be good!!

i really don't need to read that when im drinking my coffee. ya know?

Even though I disagree with what's on the cup, I'll still drink at Starbucks; like what Iacobus said, Starbucks is the Best Buy of coffee shops.

I agree, Iacobus...
If I go to Rock for Life, check their list and decide not to buy a CD from bands who support Planned Parenthood, do I make a big difference?
Absolutely. Even if it's just one cent less that doesn't go to supporting evil practices, it's still a big deal. Just think, if every practicing Catholic boycotted companies who support abortion, how big would that be?
Huge to us, but to God, it doesn't matter if it's just one person doing the good, or a million. God can work through the one person.

Now that I've ranted, I've got to go research some things so I can go practice what I preach.

If you like Best Buy. I would have Saint's Rest or Tripod Bob's or Grinnell Coffee Company or even Fair Trade from the Fourm (can you tell I am in a college town? Central Iowa and 8,000 people, four coffee shops, all local) any day of the week before having Starbucks. For a lot of reasons, some being from the right, ie the cups, some being from the left, where and how they buy their beans, and some being from myself trying to be smart. A coffee shop has always been and probly always will be a "liberal"-er then mainstream thing, just from the image it has from when they were first started. Starbucks is too commericalized to be a real "attraction" for the orginal type of Coffee Shopper.

And thank you Ash Wed.

It takes me too long to order at Starbucks anyhow... I think I'll just go to a different shop. I think its kind of snobby when they rename "Small" "Medium" and "Large"... that "Tall" "Grande" business throws me wayyyy off. a pot of Folgers at home is more cost effective anyway... give the extra money to charity or something :-)

I just went to Starbucks, I tryed to take a picture of my cups but it wouldn't come out. Anyway, one said something about cops having guns and one said something about mothers. They first one I disagreed with, and the second I didn't understand.

However, my cups also contained disclaimers: "This is the authors opinion, not necessarily that of Starbucks, to read more or respong go to www.starbucks.com/wayIseeit."

Don't boycott Starbucks just yet.

"Zeroes are important. A million seconds ago was last week. A billion seconds ago, Richard Nixon resigned the presidency. A trillion seconds ago was 30,000 BC, and early humans were using stone tools. America’s national debt is now $7.5 trillion, and it’s skyrocketing, even as America’s population ages. There will never be a better time to start paying off this crippling debt than today."
this is from another Starbucks cup.

weird....a trillion seconds doesn't seem like it could be 30,000 years.
