DojoGrant Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I evacuated yesterday afternoon. After about 2.5 hours going 5mph, I finally broke free of the jam, and got home to Arkansas about 11:30pm last night. ..only to wake up to the worst nightmares coming to be. Category five, huge size, and on a collision course for New Orleans. I left most of my possessions at the seminary, only taking a week's worth of clothes and a few books. I'm on the fourth floor, but if the city is flooded, no telling how long it'll be before we can get back. I mean, worst case scenario, I might have to start all over again next semester, losing this one. I am praying that it is NOT worst case scenario.

StColette Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 (edited) We have a couple of friends living in New Orleans, we're still waiting to hear if they've evacuated already. One which has a new baby and the other is an elderly woman. Please keep them in your prayers. Just thought of a PMer who lives in New Orleans, scardella. Edited August 28, 2005 by StColette
jgirl Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Materdei and her religious community are in Thibodaux and Chorusgirl entered the Lockport Dominicans in Louisiana back in may. Karin, another phatmasser, is down there making an aspirancy.
DojoGrant Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 St. Joseph Abbey and Seminary (aka, St. Ben's) in Covington, LA (just north of New Orleans) is a shelter. I know several seminarians, some from my diocese, who are waiting it out there.
scardella Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Hey all, I made it to Houston last night with one of my roomies. Most of my family is up in Monroe, LA for the hurricane. We're just hoping for something to go back to when all is said and done. The strange thing is, though, that I can see God's Hand in this, crazy as that sounds. I think it's quite appropriate that the Gospel the other day was the parable of the wise and foolish virgins. A few days ago, I had also remarked to a friend that I like to go on road trips, but I just don't ever think to just go somewhere on a lark. Anyway, Our Lady of Prompt Succor is all that and a bag of chips, so I've just entrusted the whole situation to her hands and what happens, happens.
Apollo Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Pray for my girlfriend and her family. The Pendergrass Family. They have lived in New Orleans for over 80 years. They evacuated today, and expect to lose their entire 150 year old home and all of their possessions. Please pray. Thank you.
ryanmeyersmusic Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 we're looking at getting hit pretty hard about 5am tomorrow morning. hattiesburg's in the bad quadrant of this one... looks like 100+mph winds all day tomorrow.
Birgitta Noel Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 It's over Hattiesburg right now. Prayers for all the Pham and others who are in the midst of the storm!
Oik Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Prayers please for my Mother, my sister and her husband, and my nephew, and friends, all living in south-east Mississippi. Thanks
Jazz4jesus Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Yea I talked to my brother late late last night and something i forgot about was Amanda (his fiance`) had flown to houston mid week to help her mom Move. When Chris had to leave NO he had to choose between his car and Amanda's to drive back to Houston. So in other words he had to leave his car in NO. well there goes his car. If We had payed attention to thi thing back in friday I could of done something, I would be willing to spend money for gas so me and a friend can go out and help him bring in the cars. $70 of gas would be worth saving a car
scardella Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 (edited) Looks like the flooding isn't too bad near my apartment, but keep up the prayers. Thank you all! Edit: I have not returned yet... that'd be crazy! Edited August 29, 2005 by scardella
Dreamweaver Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 I have a cousin in Biloxi... I text messaged him earlier today and haven't heard back. I'm sure he's ok. My prayers go out for everyone else affected by the hurricane.
Jazz4jesus Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 I just found out that one of my friends from church (3 years older than me) is living in Hattiesburg Miss. She decided to ride the Hurricane out in her apartment. She survived (thank God it was only 3 at that time) but she is really really shaken up.
Birgitta Noel Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 The Christ statue in front of the Cathedral in New Orleans survived. They just showed a photo on the news and there was a huge tree just in front of it, but Christ was peeking out from behind. May He protect all those who have to dig out, dry out, etc. From Yahoo! News "On Jackson Square, two massive oak trees outside the 278-year-old St. Louis Cathedral came out by the roots, ripping out a 30-foot section of ornamental iron fence and straddling a marble statue of Jesus Christ, snapping off the thumb and forefinger of his outstretched hand."
JudoEd Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Does anyone know how to contact anyone near the Monastery of the Sacred Heart, 155 Church St, Lockport, La? Very worried about Karin. And about them surviving with no electricty, food or water. Hurricane went right over them! Thanks.
