Spiritual_Arsonist Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I felt the same way when I read that the night before. It seems that one may get weary trying to give witness, but when we start falling back, God's spirit consumes us like a fire. "Zeal for your house consumes me."
Luthien Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I went to Mass on Chebeague Island off the coast of Maine. It was said inside the 150 year old Methodist Church, due to the fact there is no Catholic Church on the island. Extremely simple, yet just as fulfilling as my cathedrals mass. I must concur on the effect the reading has had on other PMers. It struck a chord with me. :-)
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 we where talking about taking up a cross and following Christ and my pastor said look everyone hear needs to take up a cross because it 85 degrees and the air conditioning isn't working!
raptor13 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005
You duped me, Lord... What a great line.
haha yea i thought so too
DeeDee Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005
haha yea i thought so too
When I heard this line I almost started laughing. I couldn't help it. It seemed so out of context for the readings. Then when the priest started to comment on it he also said he thought it was rather amusing language, probably lost in translation. Jeremiah is one tough read!
franciscanheart Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 i got to read this reading for our 9 am mass. i love being a lector.
All For Jesus Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Yeah...I agree, the readings for Sunday were beautiful...They made a big impression on me!
kateri05 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 interesting note: in spanish, the translation for dupe is "seduce." i think that says something deeper about the way in which our Lord calls to our hearts. its more than just "pulling the wool over our eyes", which is how i would define dupe, but He lures us, he wins us over to Him, to the Love that He has to give us. fun times :
Theoketos Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I think it can also be translated as "Seduced me O Lord." Though I like both of them.
franciscanheart Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 my bible says "deceived" - i cant read my bible in preparation for readings on sunday when i am a lector because the wording is so much different!
lifeteenchick527 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005
i got to do the first reading at Mass today, it was a really cool reading and it really let me use emotion through the text.
o yeah u did!! nice job by the way lol peace out God Bless LTC

phatcatholic Posted August 30, 2005 Author Posted August 30, 2005 the hebrew word for "duped" here is htp (transliterated as "pathah"). it means: 1. to be spacious, be open, be wide --a. (Qal) to be spacious or open or wide --b. (Hiphil) to make spacious, make open 2. to be simple, entice, deceive, persuade --a. (Qal) ----1. to be open-minded, be simple, be naive ----2. to be enticed, be deceived --b. (Niphal) to be deceived, be gullible --c. (Piel) ----1. to persuade, seduce ----2. to deceive --d. (Pual) ----1. to be persuaded ----2. to be deceived its usage in the KJV is as follows: entice 10, deceive 8, persuade 4, flatter 2, allure 1, enlarge 1, silly one 1, silly 1
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005
Ditto. But it was amazing as usual.
Yay! I'm thinking of going to the Tridentine Mass most Sundays. Maybe I'll go to the Saturday vigil for the Novus Ordo just so I can get the Sunday readings for the new cycle of readings.
Seven77 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 wow!!!! thats dope phat. we NEED posts with zeal like that in the Word phorum! some of you may not know there is a section on phatmass to discuss the Sunday Readings! Sun. at the Shrine here a zealous priest said the Mass with such devotion that the Readings came alive before my eyes: "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me" "offer your bodies as a living sacrifice" to offer our entire selves with Jesus at the Holy Sacrifice for our good and the good of all His Church! everything we go through--little sacrifices, joys and sorrows.. it all comes down to this.
phatcatholic Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005
wow!!!! thats dope phat. we NEED posts with zeal like that in the Word phorum!
indeed. i'll try to post there more often
