track2004 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Um I'd vote yes, but then there are all these clauses on the yeses. I don't own one, I've gotten along fine.
Iacobus Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Yes and no. The TV can be a really good thing, it all depends on how you use it. If it starts to interfere with your prayer life or take up too much time, dump it. But if you don't watch like 23 hours of tv a day and just watch a few shows or play games once in a while, it could be a good thing to have just to use to kill time. Without injuring entierity.
Brother Adam Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 That's another thing. We use it on average once a week...

When and if that happens send it to a friend for a vacation, until you can get a handle back on your life.
Tony Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I dont watch as much tv as I used too.. mainly for sports and "DXing" which is the art of catching non-cable distant stations
RC_ Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 You can get the news on TV, plus soccer and baseball. The Simpsons is just extra...
FlyLikeABird Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I love my dvd player on my computer! I've watched some good movies on it lately and because I have a laptop computer I can watch DVDs in bed! : I don't have a TV anymore. My landlords owned the one in my suite and I just moved out of there. Never the less I rarely turned it on anyhow!
cmotherofpirl Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 (edited) My cable is off for awhile and there are things I miss: EWTN, Mash and Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns, Star Trek, the weather channel, Discovery , the Weather Channel, Little House on the Prairie, the WEATHER Channel , all the old movies on turner Classic Movies, the WEATHER CHANNEL.. However my house is getting much cleaner Edited August 29, 2005 by cmotherofpirl
stargirl3:16 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Give your kids books before you give them the remote. They'll turn out like me. :
cmotherofpirl Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 My kids started with the books, I didn't get cable until they were in high school. Their favorite stuff is history, science, or old movies. It worked: one son is doing maths and economics, another psychology, another engineering.
FlyLikeABird Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 cmom - I am with you, I do miss my Trek from time to time.
Dudette Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 you don't need it. My parents raised me without the tv and I got along fine without it. Now we have it....but I never watch it, even though I could.
Sojourner Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I don't think owning a TV is a problem as long as you exercise self-control in how much and when you watch it. The object itself isn't bad -- it's how you use it.

For me then, exercising self control means pitching the T.V.
