If you get a gin and tonic, you should be sure to get Tangueray (a brand of gin) Bombay isn't too bad either, but I once forgot to specifiy and it was the worst G&T I've ever had.

G&T's are my summer drink; in the winter, I like a Russian Quallude (not sure how to spell that), which is Bailey's, Frangelico, and vodka.

And Iceprincess is right about the cosmos -- not everyone knows how to make a good one.

Gin or vodka with any kind of juice is generally pretty good.

For beer ... I like Newcastle, Guinness, Harp. I can't stand most major American brews, although there are some great microbrews out there. I do have to say, though, that the first time I tried beer I didn't like it at all. I've since worked my way up to it. Mmm.

Coconut rum and coke is awesome.
Amaretto Sour tastes really good....not as much like alcohol as some others.
I love Cosmos, but IcePrincess said it....if they make it bad, it's horrible.
Martinis are great and come in likle every flavor (caramel apple, chocolate, etc..)

If you have wine, get a Gewurztraminer. That's my absolute favorite of all time. I like the drier versions of it better than the sweeter ones.

Drink a Beer, man. I suggest Erdinger, Blue Moon (a "Belgian" white wheat ale, good with a slice of orange or lemon), or Yuengling Lager. You may decide you like the stout, the English ale, or the German Lager...they all have different characteristics. You have to try them all to find out what you like. I gravitate to the German spectrum, followed by the English ales. I hate Guinness.

But for you, out for the first time, and probably not going someplace ultra expensive, get a Bud. Bud Lite, if you're watching yer figger. Goes down easy, and you can drink a lot of it. It's mostly water, after all.

Or, have a scotch on the rocks. I like Johnnie Walker Black Label. Rather more expensive, but as far as scotch goes it's somewhere in the middle. Crown Royal ain't bad either. Shoot, I got a 20 year-old pint of Usher's Green Stripe that I sip on.

Stay away from vodka, period. And if you have a temper, away from tequila and cheap whiskey.

I think a nice blended margarita would be good. Not too sweet, got that nice salty limey taste. That or a gin and tonic (bombay sapphire is the fancy gin and a treat) or a rum and coke (Captain Morgans is the best)

Beer and wine are both acquired tastes. Shots are also a very easy way to get way too drunk.

When I was 21, I liked those fruity drinks. Now they aren't my thing and I prefer a nice cold beer. The sweetest thing I can stand are margaritas and ciders (the alcoholic kind they have in the U.K.)

Shots and lots of sugar in your drinks can increase the likelihood of hangover -- or if you combine alcohol with cigarettes it dries you out. The best way to avoid a hangover is to simply not drink much, and don't drink on an empty stomach.

Drink water, and drink your alcoholic drinks slow. Otherwise people find out it's your birthday and they will want to buy you a drink or they will say "Hey, your drink is empty... have another!"

...and so on... and so on.....

Oh yeah, hard ciders are YUM, too. We usually get Hornsby's. Matt seems to buzz of those more quickly than other alcohol or beer, though. lol
