Anyone considering Carmel?

anybody ever made it as far as Alhambra CA. The Discalced Carmelite Sisters have a wonderful convent there. A lot of girls from my church would hang out there, and volunteer their for retreats. I also have a friend that feels called to the cloister, and plans on joining the georgetown monestary outside Sacramento.

I myself had seriously discerned OCD friars. I am glad i did a weekend with them, and made contact, i learned a lot, and recieved confirmation on my vocation in general. I didn't feel called there. But i would recommend looking into them. They have a wonderful charism and spirituality. And of course St. Theresa of Avila is one of my most inspiring Saints.

Well the one I love is in Alexandria, SD, and they don't have a website.

I do know that they have a novena for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel every year that attracts some of the best priests in the Archdiocese.

Carmelites, we are talking about like, like...Saint Therese The Little Flower time! THEY ARE SOOOOO cloistered. Well at least the one I looked into, I mean they wont even let you see their FACE!

Do they still have cloisters like that? I remember in an older movie about St. Therese (which I love) they showed the sisters in th Carmel had their faces covered with a veil when there was a doctor or something in the cloister. But pre-Vatican II, most cloisters had a cloth hanging over the grill so that you could hear your guests, but not see them.

A good friend of mine is planning on making application to a Cloistered Carmelite Monastery in Georgetown (near Sacramento). She is very traditional, so i suppose that is why she would be attracted hear, besides all the other beauties to discover.

And if i am correct they are pretty cut off from the outside like the good ol days. (But i was hoping she could let me in one day in the future to say mass or something.)

Another friend of mine showed me this other Carmelite monestary somewhere else. The web design is brilliant, but it doesnt seem as nice.

yeah I have contacted the St. Louis Carmel, They seemed really nice and I know they have had alot of vocations there. The cool thing about them is that they have perpetual adoration just like PCPA but there Carmel. I think they are the only Carmel in the states which has perpetual adoration. So its the best of both words
