argent_paladin Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 The Sacred Liturgy! And supposedly, it will be quite upsetting to many loosey-goosey liturgists. Has anyone else heard anything about it? I suspect it will come out before the end of the year, since he was working on it this summer. I can't wait!!
phatcatholic Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 OMG!! PLEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeaaaase let it be about the liturgy!!!!!!!!!
toledo_jesus Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 you know you're a catholic nerd when...

Brother Adam Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 hmmm.... I don't know. I have serious doubts he will abolish the Novus Ordo mass.

Pio Nono Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 JMJ 9/10 - Twenty-third Saturday USA Today ran a story about the rumored topic of the Holy Father's new encyclical, which is apparently well-known outside the Catholic world. Apparently, it will cover all sorts of things relating to the Liturgy. Two topics I know for sure from this report - he will mandate the use of more Latin in the Mass and he will discuss pro-abortion Catholic politicians receiving the Eucharist. Edit: This will be VERY important in the history of the Church, because the only other encyclical published exclusively on the Liturgy was by Pius XII. The fact that it's done at the beginning of his pontificate is also huge.

Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 hmmmmm i hope this solves the problems in the church.

Personally, I'd just like to see a "this is the Novus Ordo Mass, no more abuses" order, binding like "Quo Primum" was with regards to "this is the Tridentine Mass, no more abuses"...
CatholicCid Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I'd hope it rather correct the mistakes or the outlandish interpretations of "What isn't mentioned is fine to do" ideas some people hold. Though, I hope it will not (attempt to) abolish the NO

I'd never ever have to watch a bunch of old ladies prance about the Altar during Mass.
zwergel88 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I would love it if the encylcical mandated more Latin too. Latin rocks!!
Fides_et_Ratio Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 do we have any Catholic news sources for this? (lol, oh boy, if it's true, my pastor is probably grimacing thinking of the new discussions we'll have!)
Era Might Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 If you ask me, the Holy Father should just republish "The Spirit of the Liturgy" as an Encyclical.

It'd take much more than one encyclical to do that! I think only when Christ returns will the Church's problems be solved. Also, we have to be realistic about the effects of an encyclical. First, it on its own doesn't have governing force, like the General Instruction but rather would give principles and condemnations. Still, it would strongly indicate the liturgical agenda of Benedict. And it would be a major morale boost to faithful Catholics. But, remember how Humanae Vitae was ignored? And you know how even clear liturgical guidelines are still ignored. Also, the average Catholic has probably never read an encyclical. So, I'm not sure what the actual effect would be.
