Look, humor is nothing if it doesn't require a little legwork. It's much funnier if it's not obvious.

Why does that fill me with dread?

There's no need to feel dread. Now, if we both lived in the same city, and that city happened to be in Minnesota, it would be well and proper for you to feel some degree of fear.

I read your first post to my mom, and she just started spouting all this out. She's had six, so I just typed everything that she said:

My mom gained between 60 and 80 lbs with each of her six children, which she delivered naturally. With three (the last three), however, she did have epidurals. Her first and second labors were ONE HUNDRED PERCENT different. No medication except demoral was used with the first (me). STAY CALM! This will end soon. breathe.
"I think if I could place one thought in the woman's head, it would be this: pray for the husband to have grace. offer this up for the father who will one day watch them walk down the aisle. Because if he's not a good father and leader of the home you're going to have a hard time fulfilling God's will".

"Breathe again. "

"One of the things that helped me the most was to gently put my hands on the wall and spread my legs a little, breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth (making a noise), as slowly as I can, while I'm in a contraction. It keeps you from cramping and squeezing your hands tightly. Remember to keep your hands open. If you feel the desire to get on all fours, DO IT. It helps the birth process."

" If it's excrutiatitng, and you're not at the hospital yet, take a warm bath. It will alleviate the labor at the moment."

Mom says you can't take a bath once your water's broken, though, unless you're in a totally sterile environment.

"Now, if you're a fast one, be careful when you use the toilet because you might stand up and deliver at that point".

"It will pass, and she'll be holding a brand new baby!"

Is that a tear I see? :saint:

hehe Thats good advice Totus Tuus, and I am sure it will be well taken, but I think Prose wants advice on how to get labor to START, not necessarily how to deal with it after it starts (she's pregnant with her second so she's done it once already). lol I swore I was going to start doing jumping jacks every day to kick start contractions if something didn't happen soon when my due date got close with Genevieve. I just cried instead. lol

Here's a link you can check out, Prose. Some of the things they suggest are a little odd, but you might get a few ideas of some less weird things to try. http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/natinduc.html

(PS-- getting on my hands and knees and having pressure put on my hips really helped ease some of the pain and pressure when I was in labor. Both times 100% "natural"--no pain meds. Genevieve came so fast, though, that I had to have a shot of pitocin afterwards so I wouldn't hemmorage. Precipitious labors can do that to you.)

If this was the case, it should cause some degree of fear in every resident of Minnesota.

The meeting of Sojourner and Carrie would be roughly equivalent to the unleashing of Zool at the meeting of the gatekeeper and the keymaster in Ghostbusters.

Now I say our first meeting should be in Nebraska (or Steubie, if its school time).
