Yeah, I guess a lot of people don't realise that Jesus is present in the Tabernacle.

Other.
I find it more irritating when people get 'bugged' about other's imperfections. Aren't we all irritating? And what about 'forgive others as I should be foregiven'. Easy to get irritated about others when you're perfect.

StatingTheObvious.....

it is hard to have a prayerful attitude toward the Mass, concentrating on receiving Jesus when there is a dull roar from everyone else. it is also disrespectful of people to have such a "entertain me" attitude toward Mass when that's not why we should go to Mass.

There is a difference between being irritated with things like smacking, biting your nails, chewing your hair even and disrespect for the Lord's house and for the people who are there to worship Him. Being respectful of Christ in the Eucharist is called being reverant. Being Catholic is recognizing Christ living in the Eucharist - so why disrespect Him and the people there to see Him by gabbing in the sanctuary when you could just as easily do it outside or even in the vestibule!

It's about respect. It's about respect for Christ and it's about respect for your fellow worshipers.

There was a woman in Mass yesterday blowing bubbles with her gum!! :annoyed:

But talking only bothers me if it is during Mass. I HATE when people are talking when Jesus is placed in the tabernacle after communion.... ggrrrr.

But I understand when people come in that they want to say hello to eachother. It is a community of faith afterall. Just so long as they are doing it quietly. Loud talkers bug me.

After Mass I think is fine.

But that is just me.

I think theres an acceptable level of noise that should be maintained within the sanctuary. Whispering to say hello to your neighbor or to say goodbye and see you next week seems alright but if you're talking about where to go to eat... go outside! Why not talk to Christ while you're there?

It just seems to be that there is a huge eruption of noise once the priest has passed people. It's like once Father has walked by then we're free to gab as loud as we want about whatever we want.

:idontknow:

i mean would you really do that in St Peters? why do it in your church?

Once when I was at Mass with my grandma, she realized that she'd forgotten to grab her list for groceries afterwards and asked me if I'd grabbed it (and since she is almost deaf, she was talking rather loud). My dad, who was coming in from parking, grabbed her shoulder to try to shush her, and she turns to him and practically yells, "I forgot my list!" My dad shushed her, to which she responded, "They encourage us to talk to each other in this church!" Which made for a good laugh for the surrounding people.

Having said that, I think it's okay to greet the people, but to carry on extensive conversations is a bit excessive. And there are situations that cannot be avoided as far as talking in church afterwards goes...for example, our choir director is in there cleaning up for at least half an hour after Mass. If you need to talk to her, you need to talk in the sanctuary.

If people want to say hello before Mass that is fine, but discussing every activity of every grandkid is a bit much. That you do over lunch at Eat'n Park afterwards.

I can't stand people talking after mass in the church. mass is over so there is no need to respect this place so i can talk as loud as i want.

Also when people prefectly capable of genuflecting don't they bow or half bow...grr... it bugs me. :pinch: <_< :annoyed:
Both really bug me.

People at my parish think it's social hour before, after, and during Mass. It's almost impossible for me to pray because the noise level is so high -- it's just too distracting. Mass just seems to be a place to catch up with friends for a lot of people.  :( It just makes me sad because I think many people have forgotten why they are there in the first place, which is to catch up with the Best Friend anyone could ever ask for in the world.

I really do think that people have forgotten the meaning and value of silence.

Totally agree. And how about this when was the last time you went to visit someone in their home and then ignored them?

I have heard the excuse "but we are a community." Fine so go "commune" in the parking lot. I can call these people up any time of the week. God is only "asking" for one hour.

I pray the rosary before Mass by myself, I use ear plugs. I have timed my rosary so that I am ending it just before Mass starts.

What really annoys me is when I'm trying to pray just before Mass and everytime someone walks in I instinctively turn around to see who it is.

I agree with the spirit of your point, mass and the sanctuary is "spiritual time" not social time. However, God wants us to be in community, yet we should be reverent during "spiritual time" and in a "spiritual place." It can be difficult to balance.

A few questions though:

You can call those people anytime, what about those you don't know?

If you went to your father's house, of course you would treat him respectfully and interact with him, but if he had also invited the whole family over, do you think he would be pleased if you didn't greet your brothers?

Also: You say go to the parking lot, a good idea, unless it's winter and you live in the north, and not Georgia. I can not tell you how many times we left after Mass during howling snowstorms last week.

None of this excuses treating Mass or the presence of Jesus in the tabernacle casually. However, we should be charitable, God desires us to be in community, and the Mass is public (community) worship. Adoration is an excellent opportunity for private worship, any proper Eucharistic chapel will maintain silence perpetually.

(Of course, when I was Protestant, I was Pentecostal....noise doesn't bother me, lol.)
