Dave Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 As many of you know, I attend an indult Tridentine Latin Mass parish which is staffed by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. While I'd say most of the people there aren't what you'd call "radical traditionalists" (more appropriately termed "false traditionalists"), I've nevertheless met a few -- people who see nothing wrong with what Archbishop Lefebvre did, people who blame the Church's problems on Vatican II, people who absolutely abhor the Novus Ordo Mass, etc. I once posted on here that I'd discovered that there were those in the parish who, if they had plans to travel in areas with no Tridentine Masses, would just get a dispensation from their Sunday obligation. Well, today I met a new guy at my parish who's visiting from New Orleans and who might relocate to Atlanta permanently. The only time he'll attend Novus Ordo Masses is for weddings and funerals. It doesn't matter how reverent or beautiful any given Novus Ordo Mass is; he'll only attend Tridentine Masses or the occasional Eastern rite Divine Liturgy. As a result, if he can't get to an indult Mass, whether on a Sunday or weekday, he'll attend Mass at an SSPX chapel or even a sedevacantist chapel. And if he can't even get to one of those places, he just won't go to Mass and instead read the prayers of that day's Mass from his missal (yes, even on Sunday). And in my conversations with him he seemed to imply that he doesn't consider the Novus Ordo Mass valid when said in the vernacular. Arrgghh ... please pray for false traditionalists!
cmotherofpirl Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 yep another poor sucker swimming with the sharks.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 i bet he thinks the same thing about you............

dspen2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 tsk. tsk... can we say that he is outside the bosom of Holy Mother Church??? especially, in light of the fact, that She thinks and proclaims otherwise
cmotherofpirl Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 If the guy has decided on his own personal opinon that the Mass is not valid, he is put himself outside looking it, a very sad place to be.
scardella Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I'm glad that wasn't me! But then again, I'm in Houston...
zabbazooey Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Why would you go to a schismatic church or miss Mass? That makes no sense. "I'm faithful to the Magisterium by attending schismatic group's Masses and if I can't get to one of those, I just miss the Sunday Mass" What a moron.

I think Mass is more important than what this fellow is making out of it. Sure, it may be hard to get through if it isn't exactly as we like it, but its another cross we bear for Christ... evidently some people think that they are better than others in certian aspects...

zabbazooey Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Well you are if you think you're being faithful to the church by missing mass....then you're an idiot
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 just because someone thinks differently than you does not make them an idiot. the man obviously thinks that he is right. so he may be wrong but you might be wrong. believe what you like but he is not an idiot because he thinks differently. b

That is not correct. It is not about what he thinks. It is about what is true. That is where the disconnect takes place.

Refusing to go a Mass because it doesn't meet his standards but DOES meet the Church standards is idiotic. He is being a magisterium of one - a protestant, no matter what name he gives himself.

brendan1104 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 I wouldn't go so far as to attend a sedevacantist chapel...
