Dave Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 When I go shopping for clothes or shoes, I don't like being waited on by a woman -- especially if it's a men's clothing or shoe store. For some reason I feel that men should wait on men and women should wait on women. I don't know why I feel this way, though -- maybe it's because men would know better how men's clothes and shoes are supposed to fit than women. And in the same way, women would know better how women's clothes and shoes are supposed to fit than men. Am I weird for feeling this way?
Snarf Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Freshman year of high school I was measured for a tuxedo by an attractive woman tailor and felt special for weeks.
Guest T-Bone Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 For cloths and shoes, you need a woman, otherwise you'll look like you dressed yourself. (Hint: Plaids and stripes don't mix.) For manstuff (guns, tools, boots, tents, etc.) you need a guy...
Nathan Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Yeah, I actually prefer being helped by a woman for stuff like clothing and shoes. As a guy, I generally have no idea what looks good, or stupid -- and I can always trust a woman to let me know. Plus, there's almost a motherly aspect to it.
homeschoolmom Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I don't think I've ever really thought about it, since I do most of my clothes and shoe selecting without the aide of a salesperson. Most of the time when I am approached by one, it's a woman. And I usually tell her that I don't need her help.

dspen2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 it isn't weird.... what is particularly awkward, is when you are at a men's store to purchase a suit, and the saleswoman measures you... i don't like that at all -- very inappropriate to have a woman, whom you do not know, touching you -- albeit not in an intended inappropriate manner. it does have the possibility of being an occasion of sin, though

Although, sometimes when I go shoe-shopping it's a guy salesperson. It doesn't bother me. I'm not usually asking for advice from them, just for them to get the right size. Most guys can handle that.
Dave Posted October 4, 2005 Author Posted October 4, 2005 Maybe I was too broad when I made my initial post. I take it back -- it's not really all the time that I'd prefer not to be waited on by a woman. Rather, like T-Bone said, it's mainly in regard to "manly" stuff that I'd prefer to be waited on by a man. For example, I've seen women working in stores selling work clothes and work boots -- in a couple cases they were the only salespeople in the store! And more men buy those than women ... so I feel like a man would know much better than a woman about such items.
Cow of Shame Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 My brother-in-law was returning home on a late flight, and was stopped at the security check point. A good looking woman insisted on patting him down. The guard standing nearby holding the AK47 just smirked the whole time. Brother-in-law wouldn't mind that sort of security all the time.... I dunno...would you rather have a woman near your junk (with the possibility of her having naughty thoughts) or a man near your junk (with the possibility of HIM havign naughty thoughts)?
Jaime Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I fly almost weekly and so far my "junk" has always been left alone.

Cow of Shame Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Sounds like a great place to hide a dirty bomb...a dirty, dirty bomb. lol Of course, sometimes it seems like the person you're sitting next to in the plane has done exactly that.
Anastasia13 Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 The Big 5 that I worked for has mostly guys and one young woman for sales associates. The cashiers are mostly girls, but sometimes a sales associate does cashiering, meaning sometimes a guy other than the manager is cashiering. I would rather have a woman working in a women's clothing section, but for what it's worth for you guys, we tend to know what we like on you.

Dave Posted October 4, 2005 Author Posted October 4, 2005 Oh c'mon, y'all, this wasn't about getting checked out in airports!
jasJis Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I ALWAYS prefer a woman sales person, except in a hardware store. Then again, in a hardware store, I usually know more than the sales person so I prefer no help. If I just want to know where something is, I have no preference either way. If the person seems compentent and knowledgeable about what they sell, I really see no difference between men and women. In the construction business, there are lots of women who sell, manage companies, etc. It's mostly men, but one has to be an idiot to dislike a compentent person, male or female. There's enough idiots to make an intelligent person welcome, male or female. I do NOT let a man cut my hair either. A guy has cut my hair maybe 3 times in the last 35 years and it creeped me out for months each time.
