Sojourner Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005
I do NOT let a man cut my hair either. A guy has cut my hair maybe 3 times in the last 35 years and it creeped me out for months each time.
The worst haircut I ever had was done by a man. I came in for a trim, and he cut it VERY short, and gave me bangs that hit the middle of my forehead ... SO not a good look on me. I've only had my hair cut by women since, and while I haven't loved every cut, I've never hated one as much as that one.

Lil Red Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 (edited)
And more men buy those than women ... so I feel like a man would know much better than a woman about such items.
dave, i understand that maybe you think in gender roles and that women have no concept of how cars, or power tools work, but that just isn't how it is. i know plenty of women (including all of my 5 sisters) who know about power tools and cars, and a lot of girls are getting shown by their fathers how to change tires, work on cars, etc, etc. edited to add: try giving these girls the benefit of the doubt, maybe their knowledge will surprise you. crusader1234 Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 As somebody that works retail, from my standpoint I'd rather help men than women. Men don't try on things they don't really want, they never leave empty handed, and they're always quick. Women go on and on and try on a million things and usually don't buy anything. I think its only fair that people should take responsibility for their sex. In general though, I don't really care who helps me so long as they know what they're doing and are friendly.
StColette Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Since I started my job about a little over a month ago, electronics not clothes, I've had kinda the opposite happen. Yesterday one of my guy coworkers was helping some older guy and he brought the stuff up to the register, he looked at me and goes "I'd rather you ring me up cause you're a whole lot prettier than he is" and he was completely serious. I told him I wouldn't take the sale away from my coworker. I've also had the experience of where a guy would come into the store and refuse to let me help him, and literally ask me to my face "Is there a guy here who can help me?" After pointing them out to one of my guy coworkers I heard the question he asked and it was something I could have answered easily. Now that is really irritating. From what my guy coworkers have told me at our store the girls working are most likely to make a sale to a man or woman before a guy worker will. As for the clothes thing, I've had salesmen help me pick out certain clothes before and they did a really good job. I really don't care who helps me as long as they know what they're doing.
Old_Joe Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 I work at a restaurant, and I've seen all sorts of things. I've seen guests flirt with their server and vice versa. We even had one guy leave a note for his server, little did he know that she already a fiance (now husband) at the time. I've even had a guest ask me if she could have a waitress instead.

I just got a 5.1 surround sound system, which cost less than the shelf system it's replacing and is twice as nice.
