what happened to ironmonk?

Posted

I Imed' ironmonk the other day and asked him why he left phatmass and he said because he was banned by Dust for defending the Catholic Faith, he was told his tactics were not charitable so he said once he was banned for defending the faith of Christ he had to leave.
That is sad. Sometimes it is about popularity. Some of the most offended and strident voices were in the wrong, but were popular. Charity and tolerance of the bulk of PMer's were not applied equitably when it came to IronMonk and those who were most offended by him.

Ya know,

Not to rain on the parade here, but part of the call to be an apologist and/or a catechist is also to be charitable.

If charity is not followed, as a rule, then I am not opposed to banning and/or stern talking to's.

While charity is not always being "nice," it is about presenting the faith in a way that appealing. When certain people don't do that and "whomp" others on the head with the Catechism/Bible/teachings of the Church, charity is not being followed.

Those who are on their journey should also not have to worry about being berated for not knowing what the correct answer is.....being called stupid, dumb or some such is not acceptable.

(While I have fallen short on this, as have most, I recognize and apologize for doing so, when it happens...I also tend to limit my own slams to those who actually know better or are being obistinant.)

The use of true charity is often times misunderstood. Straightforward teaching of the faith is fine. You will never see me back down, nor will you see me veer from true Catholic teaching. But you will never see me berate someone for being uneducated.

That has happened and it is up to dUSt and the other mods to regulate that. If IronMonk is banned, there is a reason. If he can't be big enough to admit that, fine, but don't spin. I know why, I was part of one of the last threads he was on....it was not pretty.....

To anyone who is reading this.....charity is straightforward, but charity is not nor is it ever berating....because one doesn't know doesn't mean they are stupid, it means they need to be 1. evangelized or B. catechized.

Love thy neighbor and all that.....

whatever.

Exactly. What bothers me is the sarcasm that I see at times, unfortunately I've fallen into the same hole myself.

So, you think that it is acceptable for someone to call someone else ignorant, because they don't believe in the same on the party-lines as you? Or because they don't believe as you believe?

whatever? jas, that was a terrible response, IMHO. And I think that hot stuff and Carrie would agree, as well as many others. :ohno:

I am sorry that you feel that way. I will pray for you.
IMHO? What's humble about your opinion? You throwing your two cents in wasn't needed or wanted or appropriate, but you've got to be right, or better, or whatever. And truthfully, I really don't give a stale fruitcake if you or somebody else thinks my response is/was/maybe "terrible". I've known IronMonk for years and if he calls somebody 'ignorant', it's because he thinks they are ill-informed, mistaken, unknowledgeable, or intellectually lazy. It's not because you don't agree with him. Iron may be blunt and tactless, but he isn't disengenuous. Besides, you aren't the end-all and be-all that it was you I was referring to.

And how am I supposed to take the comment, "I am sorry that you feel that way. I will pray for you." IMBO, (in my biased opinion), I think that's condesending, arrogant, demeaning, insulting, and uncharitable.

"Humble" my ass. :lol_roll:

Thanks for using an explicative. That is classy.

I'm still going to pray for you. I do for everyone here every day. No biggie. Take it for what it is worth.....I have never been disingenious here before, I am not starting with you.
