IMHO?  What's humble about your opinion?  You throwing your two cents in wasn't needed or wanted or appropriate, but you've got to be right, or better, or whatever.  And truthfully, I really don't give a stale fruitcake if you or somebody else thinks my response is/was/maybe "terrible".  I've known IronMonk for years and if he calls somebody 'ignorant', it's because he thinks they are ill-informed, mistaken, unknowledgeable, or intellectually lazy.  It's not because you don't agree with him.  Iron may be blunt and tactless, but he isn't disengenuous.  Besides, you aren't the end-all and be-all that it was you I was referring to.

And how am I supposed to take the comment, "I am sorry that you feel that way. I will pray for you."  IMBO, (in my biased opinion), I think that's condesending, arrogant, demeaning, insulting, and uncharitable.

"Humble" my ass.   :lol_roll:

I've got to agree with Cam here. Whatever reason Ironmonk may have for calling someone ignorant, it is nevertheless an uncharitable comment.

Ironmonk has repeatedly called me ignorant, naive, and told me I am a child based on the fact that I do not agree with his political party.

When a particular thread on politics was closed, Ironmonk had the gall to send me a private message saying that I was ignorant. I ignored him rather than start a big fuss about it. May I ask who the uncharitable party was there?

While I respect IM's passion for the faith and trying to inform others, he can go about it in a much better way.

I know I have partaken in sarcastic and uncharitable comments as well. Most of them were in response to being attacked by IM.
I Imed' ironmonk the other day and asked him why he left phatmass and he said because he was banned by Dust for defending the Catholic Faith, he was told his tactics were not charitable so he said once he was banned for defending the faith of Christ he had to leave.
I've never met dUSt but I would find it impossible to believe that anyone would be banned for defending the faith. But if that is what Ironmonk got out of it, it shows a great deal about his lack of understanding.

I have no doubt that Ironmonk loves the Faith. But Ironmonk was a bully, plain and simple. He chased people off the debate board on more than one occasion because of his tactics. There are people who are nascent in their understanding of apologetics and are reading the debate board.

Empathy and the truth are not diametrically opposed.

This thread wasn't about bashing/defending IronMonk or his charity (or lack of it.) It was inappropriate to go into specific detail. Monk has had his run-ins, and it was with only a few people. Of note, it was many, many, months ago that there was big problems with IronMonk. The recent things were straws the broke the camels back.

It was inappropriate for specific people that had problems with him to bring it up. He was banned, you were listened too. My post was in response the comment that IronMonk felt he had to go because he was defending Jesus. I don't always agree with how Monk said things, but I do agree with what he said and felt that "some" of Monks problems were popular people taking offense to Monk and then lot's of people dog-piling on him without looking at the big picture. Monk never said things to be mean, but how he said things often hurt feelings and sounded mean. He's not very diplomatic, but not intentionally mean.

Forgive and forget. We all get offended, but not all choose to comment on it. Arrogance, self-righteous intolerance, and hypocritical "charity" bugs me as much as it does you. And we are all guilty of the same 'sin' as well. Sometimes we get called out on it, sometimes we don't.

I still miss Ironmonk and wish he was still here. I also have talked to dUSt and have great respect for his decisions in the way he runs PhatMass. I may not agree with Monk's ban, and I wish he was still here, but it's dUSt's board and he 100% does the best job he can so he shouldn't get any grief over it.

To clarify, Ironmonk is no longer banned. If he chooses not to post anymore, then that's his decision.

If he said that I banned him for defending the church, then I guess those of you who'd like to believe that can go right ahead. Just know that I tried to apply the same standards to Ironmonk as I did everyone, and honestly, if anything, I felt that I gave Ironmonk more chances than anyone else.

The simple fact is: Ironmonk doesn't agree with the way I apply the phorum guidelines. Just like anyone else, if he plays by the rules, he can post until his head falls off.
