Theologian in Training Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 (edited) They released itunes 6.0, a new "Media-Like" Center G4 and a Video iPod, which allows you to watch your favorite tv shows and music videos on your ipod. Of course, right now they only have stuff from ABC and other Disney owned shows, but it is a start, but they seem to have a very vast music video selection. And, I just watched a preview of one of the videos, man are they clear. I knew once Apple jumped on media they would do well Edited October 12, 2005 by Theologian in Training
Lil Red Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 i think it'll be cool once the kinks are worked out.
crusader1234 Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I've got to say, Apple's kind of outpacing themselves. I'm reluctant to buy anything from them, because I know in about a month they'll have something newer and cooler for the same price as my now old an uncool pod. Ipod mini? Ipod NANO. Ipod? Ipod PHOTO. Ipod photo? ipod VIDEO. I mean, call me crazy, but it seems like they're alienating a lot of their customers. I'd feel ripped off if I bought a regular iPod yesterday and today they have video.

Now that that has finally been released, I would imagine they will stop tinkering with the ipod for the time being and turn their focus on the new powerbooks which will be released with their first Intel chip, the Centrino. I like what they are doing, personally, and still have the monochrome ipod. I listen to it all the time, still have not even come close to maxing out my 40gigs and am quite content with it. I would think they only alienate those that just could not wait until the next best thing was released. For me, personally, I am fine with it, and now that they have released the video I will wait until they make it so you can store movies, and then prolly get one Besides, I am sure they wanted to release these things before the Christmas season, to give people time to decide which ipod really works for them, and suits their needs the best. Just my .02
Philippe Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 you can store movies on it, you just have to rip them onto ur comp then encode it into mpeg4... its a hassle but it can be done. I'm seriously considering updating my old school ipod now that theres something worth getting. Its kind of annoying i pay'd 399 for me 10 GB HUGE monochrome ipod and now i can get a 60 GB Color Video Ipod for 399.... argh
photosynthesis Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 apple makes the most aesthetically pleasing technology and therefore I like them. There's an Apple store at a nearby mall and every time I go in all I can say is "ooooooh....pretty!!!!!!!!!!" call me shallow, but i like my technology pretty
zabbazooey Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Ipods are too expensive...I payed 150 for my 6GB mp3 player and it works just fine
Theologian in Training Posted October 13, 2005 Author Posted October 13, 2005 First off, I was talking to one of the managers at the Apple store (they know me because I go there so often...don't know if that is a good or bad thing) and he said Steve Jobs did not want corners on any of his products, which is why everything is rounded off. So, I think the aesthetically pleasing thing is intentional. Second, ipods are expensive because they do a lot, and now do a whole lot more. Lastly, I think I figured it out. For years no one thought Apple would ever jump on the whole Media Center bandwagon, because they were known for design and music, however, the move to make the ipod capable of playing music, videos, photos, and audiobooks seems to be Apple's way of moving in that direction. It did not click with me though until I realized what they did with the new G5. They added a program called "Front Row" whereby you can access Music, Photos, Video, and DVD. I don't know how many of you have ever seen a Microsoft Media Center but that is exactly what their Media Center covers. The only thing that Apple has not yet added is tv functionality. Something Microsoft does already offer. I think despite Jobs' adamant refusal to move into the Media Center direction, he has decided to do just that. I guarantee, given all these new releases, that it is only a matter of time before Apple has the Apple Media Center. I really wish they had done this BEFORE I built my own based on Microsoft's Media Center 2005 Doh! There is a slight difference though, Apple is exclusively using the ipod for that, when Microsoft released a mini media center, that had the same capabilities but just did not take off as well as I am sure they had anticipated. Kind of seems only fair, Gates stole the idea of a Widows based computer from Jobs, now Jobs is redesigning the idea of a Media Center for Apple and, in my opinion, will probably be much more successful in doing so. In my opinion, it is really cool.
zabbazooey Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Don't get me wrong, i want a ipod. I just dont have the moolah. Ipods are soooo cool.

Which is kind of a bummer, 'cause it'd be fun for other stuff... but I lack discipline, so I need to separate tasks. If, somehow, OS X turns out to be too annoying, I will put Linux on the iBook too.
