Didacus Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=80289 I thought this deserved its own thread. I've begun praying the rosary a few weaks ago. Praying is still just a mystery for me... I've never been much of a prayer kind of person. But I am trying, and getting better at it. Maybe that's why this article striked me so much. does anyone else get scared sometimes? I do. Especially for my children. Notice in the article they forced them to sign a paper saying they wouldn't pray to mary anymore! Now I just feel like crying... Of papa, John-Paul the great, pray for us.
Jedi_StClaire Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 That's horrible! And here I thought muslims had a great respect for the Virgin Mother because she's mentioned in their holy book.

Indonesia is where the Highest population of muslims belongs to. The fact that they're saying a "Catholic" prayer is not allowed. They are not supposed to venerate saints but many still do. You have to look at which area the Muslims are from to determine how open they are to the veneration of Mary. The idea that they were this concerned with it shows that it must be effecting some muslims in that area.

crusader1234 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 The worst part is, if anybody does die a martyr, there's basically no chance we'll ever know.

That's a lil brash. I can understand mothers signing it for the sake of their children and the same for fathers. They can sign a paper, it'ls not like it'll actually stop them from praying a rosary though. If they did stop praying it altogether, then i'd say shame on them.
Fidei Defensor Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 I would have just kept on praying, and let Holy Mother bring me home.
LuchaporElRey21 Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Concerning their possible martyrdom: Yes, it is sad that they could not find the courage at that moment to stand up for what they believed in. But still, I am not going to cast stones, because we have all fallen short of the standards of God. Peter could have been martyred when he rejected Jesus three times, but he was afraid of the way people were aggressively pursuing him. And look at how God pulled through. He made this man, who is a coward by our unforgiving human standards, the first pope. He made him as unmoving as a rock. None of us are solid. All we can do is trust in the Grace of God to cover all the bases.
Dreamweaver Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Wow, that is quite sad. Here I thought that muslims had a deep respect for the Virgin Mary. Instead, the crazy radical ones are the ones that make the news. In a delicious twist of irony, I will pray a rosary for those muslims.

CatholicCid Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 It's wierd how "SEX ABUSE" and "CHURCH SCANDAL" that is years old and half the time unproven can make News Headlines, but this stuff doesn't make it into the secular news... It represents one form of a major religion... But then again, It isn't insulting the Church and would possibly "offend" some
BC4Life Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 (edited) i hate that religion and i hate most muslims. Edited October 15, 2005 by BC4Life
son_of_angels Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 I do not hate Muslims. How can I if Christ died with them in mind as well as me? Because you make that statement, I have reason to doubt that you actually have any Muslim friends. Friendship, brotherhood, mutual concern, these are the things that overcome hatred. It is difficult to hate even those who are trying to harm you if you actually have relationships with people like them. I do however believe that Islam is the natural-born enemy of Christendom. The two empires are mutually exclusive. Where one reigns, the other shall suffer. It is up to us, then, to see that they do NOT gain power, but, beyond that, we must also pray for the gift of Martyrdom, so that we may ascend, as quickly as angels, to the bosom of Christ.

My daughter knows me well enough to understand who comes first in my life. My first allegiance is to God. Let me refer to 2 Maccabees 7 the entire chapter. By signinig it I feel they turned their backs on Jesus. Which in scripture is a big NO NO. You remember if we deny Him in front of men, He will deny us in front of the Father. There are many things in our life (mistakes) that God understands (you know what I mean) turning our backs on His Son is NOT ONE OF THEM.

Remember, to be in sin one must have full knowledge of what they do, serious matter, and they must have full consent of will while doing it. Now, since they are being Forced to... They don't have full consent of will. Also, I'm gonna take a guess and assume most of the people in this group would be seniors, but that's just my guess... So they might not even have full knowledge... Could you think straight if armed men rushed into your house and started threatening you and going crazy? I doubt anyone would not get confused.

We are taught this to learn from his example of what not to do. 2) 2 Maccabees 7 They did. They chose God over man. HELLO.... 3) My home is laid out in such a manner that anything can and will be used as a weapon. I am prior military. We are to encourage and challenge each other in how to live our Catholic faith. We are not here to help find excuses. I don't trust people who water down the message. I thought that was what we had Satan for. Where would the Church be if the early Christians martyrs pulled a stunt like that? Little by little I am learning thru reading the various responses who is living for God and who are fooling themselves. Not much different from my local parish. ps. If we deny Jesus in front of men He will deny us in front of the Father. Matt 10: 32-33 also verse 28. Keep in mind this isn't me speaking this is directly from God. If you have a problem with it take it up with Him. Edited October 15, 2005 by ofpheritup

I was refering to how even Peter, Our First Pope denied Christ. Should we learn from that? Of course. He later died for his Beliefs in Christ, even though he did deny him out of fear. 2) If only we all had that strength... Which countless times over history, many people have not. Are they damned then for faltering? I thought Our Lord was all forgiving. 3) Great for you being prepared. I'm sure you have airfare to go to this poor families home and and show them how to prepare their house. I'd hope I'm not watering down any message. All I stated was that in my opinion, I feel they were in too much distress to fully grasp what was happening. Judge if you want through written responses, though I assumed our Almighty Judge was Our Lord. Thanks for correcting me. P.S. As I said, Peter denied Christ. Is that an excuse? No. Was Peter denied Heaven by Christ for his actions? Well, since you seem all knowing, please tell us. Also, I feel for your Parish... For having to put up with someone as 'holy' as you. You have the scripture verses. 3) I am not the only "holy" one there, thankfully. Overall I would like to thank you for sharing YOUR christianity with me. Now pardon me while I sit back and watch the circus.
