Cow of Shame Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 why do so many say "bless this food to our bodies"? Is there some doubt as to whether or not the digestive tract will work properly this time? It's hit or miss on whether or not you absorb nutrients? A Russian roulette of dietary supplement, if you will?

I think it goes "Bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies." It's funny when they're eating something really unhealthy, like french fries or donuts.... like, "I guess God could make that donut nutritious, but it would be a miricale if He did!"

1337 k4th0l1x0r Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Dear God, we paid for all this stuff ourselves, so thanks for nothing.

photosynthesis Posted October 21, 2005 Author Posted October 21, 2005 does anyone know where the phase "saying grace" comes from?
Thumper Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 At special meals, my dad's side of the family sings a blessing: Be present at our table, Lord. Be here and everywhere adored. These mercies bless and grant that we May feast in paradise with thee.

My brothers (the two older ones 8&7) love this prayer. A Sister taught it to them.
It's Bless this food to our bodies and our bodies to Your service. (LOTS of protestants here) Has ne one ever done This one (you snap your fingers in THe Sign Of The Cross the whole time) To the Father and The Son and the Holy Ghost cuz He's the One we love the most He's hip He's cool He's quite the dude And we thank Him for our daily food So the next time you raise a toast Make it to the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost. Yea! It has a catchy little "tune" and everything. My 3 year old brother normally says the "bless us Oh Lord" prayer because he cries if he doesn't get to.
