I said, "I believe" after my claim...perhaps I'm wrong.  Either way, I don't think the Italian media is dumb enough to think that he would be able to know the page numbers only a few days after the close of the synod.  I'm certain they truly do mean an encyclical.

well, w/o an official statement from the Vatican, the "fifty pages" is just as much a rumor as the fact that he is even writing an encyclical or that this encyclical will be released on Dec 8th. i'm sorry if i sound unduly argumentative. i know this isn't really anything to spend time bickering over. i'm just showing everyone how i came to the conclusion that i stated in this post.
I think I'm gonna try to like... read all his encyclicals as they come out.  that'd be cool to be able to say you read all the pope's encyclicals as they were published...

do they publish it simultaneously in all major languages?  i assume they do..

Just wanted to remind you about what I wrote a few months ago...
If I were a betting man, I would say to look for it around November 1. Benedict wouldn't step on JP2's toes and in his last encyclical, JP proclaimed a "Year of the Eucharist" that ends this October. So, it a way, we are still in the time of that encyclical. Also, November is the month when the old liturgical year ends and the new one begins. What better time to promulgate an encyclical on the Sacred Liturgy than Advent!! We will certainly be having our own sort of advent on phatmass, eagerly awaiting the coming of the encyclical, that may save the liturgy.
It is around Nov 1 and we are looking for it. Dec. 8 would put it during the second week of advent. I should be a Vaticanologist!
Perhaps it will be on the Sacred Liturgy after all.

I would be shocked if the Holy Father didn't devote an Encyclical to the Sacred Liturgy, although personally, I don't think it'll be his first. Just a guess, but I think he'll strike on the themes he turned heads with when he gave his sermon during the Interregnum.
