Celebration of Halloween

Recommended Posts

Come on we talk about it every year.

Thoughts? Comments? Do you celebrate Halloween? Do you think it too rooted in pagan influences? Do you avoid certain costumes such as witches and devils? Do you think everyone should just lighten up and pretend for a night and get free candy?

I have a halloween party every year! I love Halloween, in fact, do you guys know of any good games for people at parties that are fun???

Every year, I have two friends that throw parties, one on Friday night and one on Saturday. It's great fun, involving lots of fun food, friends, and at E's house there's usually some dancing to loud 80s music, which is always a blast.

As a kid, we never celebrated Halloween b/c it was too pagan. I think we missed out on lots of fun and candy.

Halloween is a wonderful, wonderful day for a multitude of reasons. :D:

...a whole jack-o-lantern shaped pail full of reasons...

I was excited to move to a house and have trick or treaters come by. The first year I boiled a huge pot of spaghetti and pretend that I was giving that out. I'd grab a fistful of pasta and try to put it in their bag, then my girlfriend would push me out of the way and give them candy bars.

Good times..

Why stop with a pail? I used a pillow case.

Last year I forgot to get candy. I had to give some trick-or-treaters bananas.

When I was a kid, we used to give out candy along with tracts explaining just how evil Halloween was.

You could do what my mom did last year. She gave out granola bars. We don't get many trick or treaters in these parts.

You should do what my mom does...she's notorious for scaring the daylights out of kids on Halloween.

She put up all these creepy signs one year, and filled kiddy-sized jeans with newspapers and positioned them so it looked like our garage crushed a child, and she put a blacklight in our porch-lamp with a mask over it, had all the front lights of our house flickering on and off at different frequencies, had cauldrons with a cow's eye in one and a lamb's brain in the other, as well as a jar of pig embryos (she worked for a biomedical textbook company at the time and got freebies ), and she stood on the front porch dressed as a witch crying out things like, "come back, little children!" and "Oooh, twins...I have a double oven! [insert shameless cackle here]." Creepy music and scary sound effects (rattling chains, ghost sounds, etc.) were also playing at you could here them a couple blocks away.

One kid was so scared she ran, tripped, flipped in the air, and hit her head on our driveway...mom sent me out (dressed as a vampire) to make sure she was okay...that only made it worse...lol...the little girl's dad just thought it was great...

That is just friggin' awesome.

Too bad we never get the little munchkins.

Of course, that means I get all the candy....hmmm....

Man, those tracts make me sick...

I wish I knew if the ones I read as a child on the bus were Jack Chick or not. Nothing like reading about how evil your religion is on the busride home as an elementary school kid...

I still remember the one that had some dude eating severed fingers. He had them in his pocket. Can't say I remember the 'moral' of that story....don't get caught by the cops if you eat human flesh?

I'm sure I read all the ones we gave out, but I don't remember if any of them were Jack Chick. I probably wouldn't have paid attention to them being anti-Catholic at the time. Usually it was something along the lines of "4 easy steps to becoming a Christian."
