Veterans shield family from protests
While a small group waved signs and took joy in the death of a U. S. Soldier Wednesday in South Haven, an assortment of veterans and motorcycle groups made sure at least, that the family of the deceased would not be bothered.

The protestors, who numbered less than 10, held signs, tore American flags and made hateful remarks aimed at families of soldiers who have died in the line of duty.

There were over 125 motorcycles at the funeral Wednesday, representing veterans and cyclists from all over Kansas and Oklahoma. They surrounded the small group of protestors and whenever they would try to speak, dozens of motorcyclists revved their engines to drown them out.

Saddly all the polling data suggests the ration is more like 2:1, anti war. And somehow I don't think the protesters can be called anti war. They may be anti-war, but they are not the mainstream anti-war protesters.

I don't beleive any polling data unless I can see the questions asked. Those can be very leading.

"Is war always good?"

No.

Conclusion: I'm against war...(which is far from the case)

I don't see what percentage was democrat vs. republican. I see how they answered, but not what % they were of the sample. If you've got 60% democrats responding versus 35% republicans and 5% indepents, that's skewed.

nice story, thanks for putting us onto it! I love bikers. The Christian Motorcycle Association is pretty cool too. This put a smile on my face! Like it wasn't enough I just got back from Mass!

Is there a war going on in Iraq? I'm not convinced that what's going on fits the definition of a war at all.

I just can't imagine the disaster that would occur for those people if the protesters got their way and we just up and left. Sorry folks, we had hoped you might have a decent gov't for the first time in generations, but it turns out there are actually TERRORISTS here in the Middle East! We hadn't planned on this! We're outta here! Best of luck, try not to go outside ever.

I've met a few of them through my involvement with the Christian Sportbike Association. I know they were very involved with a benefit poker run for a local sportbiker who died at a track day.

I'm sorry I've never heard of a nation called "Terrorism" such that I could go to war with it. I have heard of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

But the very concept of protesting a funeral is A.)impious and hateful, B.) ridiculous, C.) meaningless for their cause.

This pretty much sums up liberal social/political activism in general, however.

That's because, unlike WW2, there are few if any concrete identifiable geographical front lines in the battles of today. "Terrorism" is not a nation like Nazi Germany; it is a concept.

i just dont like how people say we need to leave iraq and its like another vietnam.
Current Death tolls:
Iraq~ 2000
Vietnam~ 78,000

You cant compare those. We are helping so many people out. We are the most powerful nation, and we are filled with so many selfish :censored: that it makes me very sad. You are more likely to get killed in a car accident, a random attack in an american city, and cancer than you are to getting killed in Iraq (assuming you are over there, of course. i couldnt see me getting killed there because i am in PA)

I guess if society wants to redefine "war" to include wars on drugs, terrorism, jaywalking, or whatever, then it isn't my place to object. But we oughtta find another word to mean what "war" used to mean, because it's an important concept and we need a word for it.

I guess the terrorists in Iraq are organized enough that you might consider fighting them a "war" in the old sense, but I think it's a stretch. It would seem to have much more in common with large-scale police action.

Anyway I can't wait to ordained so I can get over there and get the Sacraments to them...there's an awful shortage of Catholic chaplains. Of course that's assuming my Bishop gives permission!

interesting that you brought up redefining war, beatty. In current political schools of thought that is exactly what is happening.

I repeat my urging that every college age person on this board should take a political science course, specifically National Security or International Relations.
You obviously didn't look at the ENTIRE polling data and take into consideration a bit of common sense.
1- Don't trust polls completely. They are ALWAYS used to bolster an OPINION.

2- Polls are Opinions. Opinions are based on perceptions. Perceptions are only based a little on fact.

3- Despite the negative opinon of the War, the reasons for it, etc., 52% to 44% say we should 'Keep Forces in Iraq' to restore civil order, even if it means suffering more casualties.

Therein lies the stupidity of many of these idiotic 'anti-war' zealots. They lack nuance.
