Both are liberal democrats.

Neither are of any use.

One spent upwards of $74 million to keep his ego going.

If I vote today, I will write in Giuliani's name.

They always back liberals.

Here, in NYC, you can't tell the difference between a supposed republican and a democrat.

Mayor Mike has done so much:

- pay to pray (meters on Sunday)
- got rid of the blue laws (allowing booze to be sold on Sunday)
- crime is up, quality of life is down
- raised the sales tax
- raised real estate taxes
- will acknowledge gay "marriage" from other states.
- parking ticket blitz
- great bean counter, city has a billion dollar surplus from raping our wallets.

Yep, prototypical "republican"

I wish I had thought of that.

Yep, he stinks. But I have a feeling that if Ferrer got into office the city would be worse off.

Unfortunately, its a choice between the lesser of two evils.

Edited to add: the sales tax thing really annoys me because Giuliani worked so hard to not only lower it but he got rid of it completely on clothing etc. Bloomberg put it back into effect and raised it! >:(

Also, I thought the pay to pray meter issue was dropped.

By no means am I saying that we vote for Freddy "I say I went to public school, but attended Catholic school my entire educational career" Ferrer.

I had hoped that Rudy would have run again, as he was eligible ( you can't hold the same office here for 3 consecutive terms).

The republican party here is a joke to even allow Mayor Mike to run under their flag, mind you, I'm tired of both parties as neither create or promote fertile ground to live your life as a Catholic.

I wholeheartedly agree! I've been pretty disgusted with both parties here.

Mike was a Democrat before running for Mayor. He publically stated that he ran as a Republican because they gave him the opportunity that the Democrats didn't.

Me too. While Giuliani is not 100% in line with Catholic teaching, he was a much better fit for this city. Crime went down. Times Square was cleaned up. He was amazing in our time of crisis. Sadly, Giuliani is supporting Bloomberg. I received one of those mass produced post cards from his office.

Maybe he's not running for Mayor because he wants to run for President.

Mike "was" a democrat a year prior to running. With all the democrats in the field, there was no way he would have gotten the nod. So he approached the republican party. The republicans did not want to lose the city, even if it is just in name, and ok'd it. Rudy, by order of the party, backed him in 2001 as well.

Yes, Rudy's biggest issues are his views on infantcide (abortion) which do not align with Church teachings. He has been married 3x now, so he isn't a bastion of fidelity, but Mayor of NY does not dictate abortion laws, so therefore that stands as his view and not his law. He was great for this city from the get go and brought order to chaos. Enforced the rules and made the city more than liveable.

President Giuliani will never happen (no mayor of NYC has ever held a higher office than mayor of NYC), but his goals now are to become Govenor of NY or be named to a high cabinet post in DC.

Regardless, I look how Roman Catholics have to live under pagan/ secular rule (lets face it folks, each party tries to replace religion with itself) in other time periods and look to Rome as my "party."

Detroit is getting a new mayor, but I don't live there, it's about 40 mins away. I don't know much about the campaign there, but I know I'm not fond of the incumbent, Kwame Kilpatrick. The other guy running for mayor there went to my university, and that's all I know about him.

all ive heard on the radio for the last three days are ads about voting on proposition 3. it begs us to honor the sanctity of marriage and save our great state from the evils of homosexual unions. then when you flip the station you hear talk radio saying that the conservative freaks need to get over it and stop holding back their fellow citizens from enjoying their lives too.....

:duh:

it's gonna be so interesting to see what happens in NJ....it is a heated race for governor this year.....both spent millions of their own money on the campaign and both candidates really stink.....a lot of people have no clue who would be the better pick.....

the republican candidate used to be in the seminary.....but he is pro-choice.....go figure

Technically I'm a New Jersey resident, but I didn't vote in this election. Lately I've been in Maryland most of the time, so I know more about Maryland politics and I would have felt comfortable voting in the Maryland race, but I just don't know what's going on in Jersey anymore. I should have un-registered in NJ and registered in MD... but I graduate this semester and everything is changing and I have no idea where I'm going to live.

Well in California, we had to vote on a bunch of stuff that the Governator wanted, and I voted no on all of it. They also had one on whether daughters have to tell their parents or not before having an abortion. I didn't vote on that one. I just didn't. I think that the church wanted us to vote yes, but I wan't sure.

They also had one one giving money to the local community colleges for repairs, which I voted yes for being that I go to one. And I voted yes on making prescription drugs cheaper.

well, if your daughter had an abortion, wouldn't you want to know about it?

I would!

Here in Virginia we voted for our new governor. The election campaign was almost exclusively mudslinging and neither candidate said anything much about the issues that are really important....blah politics.

I wasn't registered in time apparently (even though I sent it in twice..hm) so I volunteered to work as a poll worker to fulfill my civic duty. And argued vehemently on behalf of Prop 73 (making doctors tell the parents of minors before performing an abortion).
