franciscanheart Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 What is an appropriate response to the loss of pets? *please be kind with your answers. i have lost three in less than 24 hours and im not taking it so well.
philothea Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I don't know any correct reaction. It's horrible. I have been through a lot, and losing a pet is real close to the top of the most painful things ever list. Death is bad. People have an urge to take care of lesser creatures, and some of those creatures are very lovable, and become very important to us. And we can't save them. Be sad. Be angry at God, if you have to. Mourn. This isn't the way the world was supposed to be. You'll feel better, in time. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Its perfectly acceptable to grieve for something you love. My heart is with you.
Aloysius Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 though animals have by nature mortal souls, the love of a human immortal soul can lift their souls up to heaven with you.
megrc Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I'm sorry that you lost your pets, but like everyone said, it's acceptable to mourn them. They were a part of your family, and you loved them. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
annie Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Loss of a pet is awful. I cried terribly-- and they were guinea pigs! I loved those pigs!!! As a kid we had a dog killed by robbers. It was awful, and took years to get over. Mourn, tell stories, look at pictures, give yourself the chance to grieve.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I always worry about my cats getting out and getting lost... I would be heartbroken if that happened and rather angry at who let them out (Even if it was me...). I know that we've had little kittens lost in out house not making a noise... I'm so sorry about your loss It makes me sad thinking about it... I hope they return soon.

Jake Huether Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 St. Francis, pray for our pets. My little doggy is very sick too. Not sure what it is. I need to take her to the doc. But I know it's gunna cost me an arm and a leg. Last week she stopped eating, and a few days ago she got real sick and vomitted all nigth (had to rent a rug-doctor the next day...). She's still very skinny, but sometimes she looks like she's getting better. I'm not sure if I should wait it out or what... She's tought sometimes, and both my wife and I joke about how we wish she was gone. But I'd prolly cry if she were to die... I'd miss my first family pet. My prayers are with you.

Totus Tuus Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Two weeks ago we got some guineas who ran away the next day. Last week we got a kitten who ran away. My fish jumped out of its tank during the hurricane when we had no power. Our dogs have killed a lot of our chickens. But lately the hardest have been losing entire litters of baby rabbits because of negligent new mothers. It's very hard for me to have to dispose of them. The hardest loss though was when our nine-year-old white German shepherd died. I had had her since I was five, and I named her and everything. She was my best friend. I just cried and kept myself very busy the day she died. It was a tough week but the first day is always the hardest, it seems. I don't know if that's advice or not. But that's what I did.
Asher Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 first off, those are the coolest pets... I want one! secondly, I am very sorry about what happened. I won't even try to give words of encouragement, cause I don't know what to say and it might come out wrong.
photosynthesis Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I'm sorry about the loss of your pets... Grief doesn't just apply to people, it can involve anything that was important to you.. People grieve all kinds of things... houses, jobs, human dignity, etc... It's perfectly normal to grieve the loss of a pet, or anything else that was important to you. I know I'd be heartbroken if I lost my dog. I will be praying for you!
