franciscanheart Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 i guess i wasnt blatant enough with the first post.... they died. my animals died. weather conditions were affecting them in a way i was unaware of until it was much too late. really there was no way i could have known how severe it was until it happened. they are dead. gone. i didnt lose them in the sense that they escaped. i lost them in the sense that their lives are ended and i've lost their companionship.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 About a year ago one of my cats died in my arms while we were driving to the Animal Hospital one night... My mom and I were crying for the entire drive and only a few short minutes from the hospital, she (the cat) stopped crying and moving. Man, it is so hard loosing pets, especially ones you've grown attached to, especially if they die and you see them. We lost a stray cat we brought home just last year, and my sister was very upset. He was a friendly cat too, but he didn't make it through the night at the vet's. He had cancer. It always helps to cry, and cry a lot. Just thinking about all this makes me tear up, because I grew up with most of the cats. When I was little we had 4 or 5. We have 3 now, but 2 are new last year. It's tough... If you need to cry, cry.
photosynthesis Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 sometimes pets have a way of holding a family together... like seriously, the dog is one of the things that keeps my family stable and he is a BIG tension reducer. The dog is one of the things we can all talk about without throwing things at each other, he's something that everyone has in common, when it feels like we have nothing in common. plus, pets love you unconditionally. Unconditional love is hard to find with people. If I come home and I have a speeding ticket or a bad grade, my dog is still OVERJOYED to see me. pets sometimes have an important role in family dynamics and in peoples' lives...
Norseman82 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Laura, Read Genesis 9 regarding how animals were made part of the covenant with Noah and how animals would have to give some kind of accounting. Now, I don't know whether that means our pets will be in heaven, but if it does, think of the joy your pets brought to the world and how that will be taken into account, and take comfort in that.
Norseman82 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005
My little doggy is very sick too. Not sure what it is. I need to take her to the doc. But I know it's gunna cost me an arm and a leg. Last week she stopped eating, and a few days ago she got real sick and vomitted all nigth (had to rent a rug-doctor the next day...). She's still very skinny, but sometimes she looks like she's getting better. I'm not sure if I should wait it out or what...
Get your dog to the vet ASAP. Ask if it could be leptospirosis (aka lepto for short). Ask for a lepto test (it might cost anywhere from $40 to $90, but it could answer questions if other blood tests are inconclusive). If it is lepto, PM me your email or phone# and I can share my experiences with you.
Proud2BCatholic139 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 (edited) I know the day when my german shepherd, skye, died, I took my photo with her before she went to sleep. Oh, how I miss her so much. Edited November 18, 2005 by Proud2BCatholic139
Sojourner Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I recently sat with a friend who had to put her long-time pet to sleep. Several of us got together at the vet and sat with her while her pet was euthanized. We prayed a prayer to St. Francis, and hugged each other, and cried.
