inDEED Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 There's a VERY DISTINCT difference here in the argument... This woman was not EXPELLED from the CHURCH for her actions...she was EXPELLED from her JOB for not upholding her part of her CONTRACT. There's a HUGE difference here. While we are called to be charitable, we are also called to honesty and truth.

That if you have a lapse in chastity, you deserve to lose your job? Lust is wrong, but for goodness sake, it's probably the most common temptation people fall into. Can we have some compassion for someone who might have a lapse in chastity, just as they might be prideful sometimes, or slothful, or greedy, or malicious? Half the stuff we post on Phatmass would be grounds for dismissal. I don't think teachers are fired for falling into pride now and again, even though a legalistic application of the "contract" would warrant it. That's all I'm saying. littleflower+JMJ Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 i just have to speak on this thought that "as teacher you can keep your matters private." that is mentioned--which i dont agree on. if your a teacher or anyone in the school system you are living in a fish bowl where any disapproved action has the potential to have you lose your job or something to that effect. public school or not... ask any teacher, there is no "keep it to yourself and life is private" in most job, specially in the education field. In some areas, things are acceptable and passable, in others there not. if ppl know about it, and disapprove-- anything can happen, especiailly in a atmosphere where a whole school, consists of parents, coworkers, families and children, not the mention the whole community are involved. which is why I can see the school kept to their agreement and code of ethics--which all teachers have to follow to keep their job and agree on when accepting it

The honesty and truth is found in HONORING your CONTRACT. It just so happens that her "lapse in chastity" is something that caused her to get pregnant. And, getting pregnant is a VISIBLE sign that she failed to uphold her part of the contract. What kind of EXAMPLE is that to the students of this CATHOLIC school?
