Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 beofore a couple of weeks ago i was a traditionalist catholic i have only recently come back to the church.
photosynthesis Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 i've never been a rad-trad (and don't plan on it) so i don't know if this will make sense to you... but maybe studying and using your intellect might help?
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 see thats the problem... i find my intlect pointing in the wrong direction.
FutureSoror Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I'll deffinetly pray for you Sam! I'm not sure what to tell you... except to of course pray! Remember that the Holy Spirit always guides the Church and that She is Christ's bride, so it would be good to go to them. Also, I'm pretty sure that St. Joseph is the patron saint of the Church. Maybe you should consider cutting back on whatever situations lead you to drift.

Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 thats a good idea.
Myles Domini Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 First of all Sam you shouldnt worry about being traditional in the true sense of the word. Traditionalism is not bad so long as its not schimatical in which case you'd have a problem. What exactly is bugging you? You said its an intellectual problem? I agree with future sis run it by the board see if someone can help ya. Also remember that within the Catholica there is space enough for many theologumenon INXC Myles PS) I'll say a memorare for you

Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 thanks guys. my biggest problem is the church today. My old parish ( I left because it was to liberal) the new Pastor there told everyone and these are his worrds, that he "loses the catholic teachings about homosexuality 'behind the radiator'" there is so much abuse in the church. I think JP2 was a very holy man but i also think that because of his ineffective leadership the church is in a state of crisis right now.
FutureSoror Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005
future sis
hehe... I like that!

Laudate_Dominum Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005
there is so much abuse in the church. I think JP2 was a very holy man but i also think that because of his ineffective leadership the church is in a state of crisis right now.
My appraisal of history is that John Paul II was thrown into a Church in turmoil. I think his leadership was incredibly phenomenal. Admitedly he was not as authoritarian as I might have liked, but in the end this is probably a good thing considering that the Church was in such a sensitive state when he became Pope. It might have caused more harm than good. But regardless, he preached the truth fearlessly to the end, and his papacy has born much fruit. I think it a totally incorrect and unfair to say that his leadership was ineffective. And to suggest that the Church is in crisis because of his leadership is to simply not understand the history of the post-conciliar Church.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 well the churchi is in a crisis. i blame bishops more than i blame the pope. Benedict is more authoratative then Jp2.
Theologian in Training Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Perhaps, your rashness is based upon the same haste with which you left traditionalism in the first place. Maybe you should step back and examine why it is you left traditionalism in the first place. I know it had something to do with a charismatic retreat, but what was it, in particular, that drew you away from the level of traditionalism you used to practice? Also, being traditional is not a bad thing. It is when you start putting it above the Church that the problems ensue. I had a good priest friend, not two years ordained, is now saying the Latin Mass in L.A. somewhere because he decided the Church was in a state of crisis and, instead of trying to do something about it decided to run away. It was quite sad..he just decided to up and leave one day, because he just could not handle the Church as it is. However, one thing he should have remembered, and it might be good for you to remember is that the Church is not our Church, we did not institute it, we did not found its religion, we did not even create the Mass, it is the result of Christ and Apostolic Tradition (granted, I am oversimplifying, but you get the point). Pray more about it. Put the books down for a moment, and discern on your knees, not with your head. Also, if it is intellectually that a problem exists, perhaps you have to examine what you are reading. Is it all stuff that is negative towards Vatican II, John Paul II, etc. or is it balanced? In other words are you exclusively reading "The Great Facade" or are you balancing it with "The Spirit of the Liturgy?" Just some things to think about. God Bless
