Era Might Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Try praying to St. Joseph. One of his titles is "Terror of Demons".
photosynthesis Posted December 5, 2005 Author Posted December 5, 2005 hmm... do you know of any prayers in particular? i am not sure if it is demons but i think it is just circumstances and ilnesss
philothea Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Try just lying in bed and not moving. That accomplishes 90% of what sleep does... and you might fall asleep, too. And maybe say a rosary or two while you're resting...?

Eg, I sometimes pray before I go to bed "St. Joseph, please obtain for me a peaceful night and a holy death". There's also the Memorare to St. Joseph:
Remember, most pure spouse of Mary ever Virgin, my loving protector St. Joseph, that never has it been heard that anyone invoked your protection or besought your aid without being consoled. In this confidence I come before you; I fervently recommend myself to you. Despise not my prayer, foster father of the Redeemer, but graciously deign to hear it. Amen.
Edited December 5, 2005 by Era Might
photosynthesis Posted December 5, 2005 Author Posted December 5, 2005 yeah... doing personal prayers to saints just isn't something i've figured out yet... it's not like I don't agree with it or anything, it's just not something i've ever been in the habit of doing
Lil Red Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 St. Vitus? i quickly googled him and one website said he is invoked often for sleeplessness.
Lil Red Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 i'm trying to find some prayers, but no luck yet.
Lil Red Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 bingo! Lord Jesus Christ, During Your earthly sojourn You went sleepness at times and spent whole nights in prayer. But there were many other times when You slept. I cannot seem to get to sleep these nights and I cannot even pray. Please help me cure this sickness, Lord, for I desperately need sleep to do my work and to behave as a pleasant human being as well as to act in a christian manner. Enable me to get a goods nights sleep, or at least to spend my time in prayer with You. Thank You Lord. photosynthesis Posted December 5, 2005 Author Posted December 5, 2005 hmm... i am going to look up St. Vitus.. it looks like St. Peter Damian struggled with insomnia.. http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=780 and St. Raphael is invoked against nightmares...
Lil Red Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 O my God, merciful Savior, I spent another sleepless night last night. It happens so often I'm afraid it will hurt my health. Why can't I just relax and sleep? Help me, Lord. Help me to recognize and correct any bad eating habits or work habits that may be contributing to my sleeplessness. Send your Spirit to calm my troubled heart by the knowledge of your love. Keep me mindful of your care, so I may truly be care free in my sleep. Cradle me in your protective arms. Fill my mind with the good thoughts of your gospel, and push out the troublesome thoughts that boil and bubble inside. Comfort me with the rest that comes only from you, for your name's sake. Amen. Dreamweaver Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 The rosary? Sometimes it makes me really sleepy. Other times it works as a sort of "spiritual caffeine". How about a glass of milk? Or getting your mind off of sleeping? Reading a book or a few minutes before sleeping. I also heard that you should only be in your bed when sleeping. If you tend to read or do homework in bed, you'll associate it with those activities and it'll be harder to sleep when you want to.
photosynthesis Posted December 6, 2005 Author Posted December 6, 2005 ah, then i guess typing on my laptop in my bed right now is not the best idea....
