phatcatholic Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 just b/c i asked if it had been mentioned in any church documents that doesn't mean i don't get it
The Joey-O Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Hmm...my warm and fuzzies say Saint John Paul the Great! My study of his works says...SAINT JOHN PAUL THE GREAT...I actually haven't studied a whole lot about his life, so I'm not much of an authority. But, if being a saint was based on your ability as a theologian and philosopher, then by golly, Go St. JPtG!
N/A Gone Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 phatty.. put u under the heatlamp dear friend, If open theism is not acceptable to you than justify to my conscience with simple reason and scripture how you will contribute free will in relation to detemined thoughts.. or, try to step beyond the platonic time.. I mean this is more of a science issue than anything else.
phatcatholic Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 where did i say it wasn't acceptable to me? i just asked for more information
N/A Gone Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 well, what would you say right now? how do you answer it late at night when u wonder things
N/A Gone Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 weird...drove me crazy and theodicy actually made me lose faith when i was 12/13 and its pursuit brought me back when i found twt
Laudate_Dominum Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005
phatty.. put u under the heatlamp dear friend, If open theism is not acceptable to you than justify to my conscience with simple reason and scripture how you will contribute free will in relation to detemined thoughts.. or, try to step beyond the platonic time.. I mean this is more of a science issue than anything else.
what exactly do you mean by Platonic time? And how is this a presupposition that undermines the last 2000 years of belief about God? What are the precise philosophical bases of open theism regarding time that you consider to be superior to this so called "platonic time"? The nature of time is a philosophical, or more precisely metaphysical question, not a strictly scientific question. Certainly science has interesting data to contribute to the discussion, but there is hardly some new metaphysical understanding of time that can be said to be a scientific fact. There are perhaps facts and changing theories that can be used to develop an interpretation of time, but there is still a great plurality of philosophical notions of time. Open theism seems to apply a particular metaphysics of time to God's own being. Perhaps it is a form of presentism. But the fact is, even if such a philosophy of time could be "proved" scientifically (which is beyond the scope of science sadly), God infinitely transcends being and thus a univocal application of any categories of being to God is nonsense.
Aloysius Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 seeing as this thread has already been thouroughly hijacked, I'm really confused as to how open theism flies with the dogmas about predestination. I mean, it seems all well and good for the free will dogmas, but what about the predestination ones
The Joey-O Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Golly! "Precise philosophical bases". What am I?! A philsopher?! Here are the reasons why I haven't done that yet: 1) If you read the big fatty thing that Revprodeji on Open Theism, then you wouldn't ask this question. It's a summary of the philosophical bases. 2) I am an undergrad. I haven't been trained up in the language yet. Thus, we seem to often talk at each other and not communicate properly. 3) It's finals! I don't have that kind of time!
