One time in physics I didn't see that there was a provided equation to calculate the induced voltage of an electron orbiting a magnetic dipole, or something like that.  So, I made my own!  Except, I forgot that the critical traversed path was the circumference and not the radius, so when I was explaining this to my professor he was just like, "umm, you're off by two-pi.  But, good effort."  He must have thought I was an idiot-savant-idiot.
Ah, the Sun Constant.  I use vector/dimension-less constants all the time in physics problems.

I had a friend in AE who was supposed to determine the max cruising height of an airplane. After many pages of work, he got a negative number. Not wanting to redo it all, he scrawled "I've discovered the submarine!!" on his paper and turned it in.

lol that's awesome! if i were the teacher i would've given it to him! i'm a sucker for funny answers

My calc teacher in HS liked to say:
Math is beautiful!
He also would get aggravated and say...
What do you want me to say, s***?!?!
It was really funny, because he was from Guatemala and ~65 yrs old. He also showed the only movie I've seen in a Math class: Stand and Deliver. It was about a Math teacher that got his whole class (made up of low-income inner-city types) to take Calculus and pass the AP exam. They had gotten to school early and had saturday school just to catch up to take Calculus... It's a :nerd: feel-good movie..

Rene Descartes believed that the only way to truly understand philosophy was to first master mathematics.

I hope he was wrong. ;)

I still have all my math books at home from my University days!

I cna, with a little time and research, express the solution to 99% of all math problems imaginable!

(Except of course economy... I sold that one once I passed the course... think I got meself a pint a beer for it too!)

One of his most popular quotes;

"No one with a firm knowledge of calculus will ever loose an argument against someone who does not."
DesCartes... one of the big-guns of math for sure!!!

Well I guess he didn't understand philosophy then!!

Dang differential calculus!

I know nothing about calculus. And I like it that way.

My prof in college was hilarious.

People could ask him to go thru homework problems and he would meticulously do so on the overhead. One time, when he had completed a problem, a student raised his hand and said, "But that's not the answer they had in the back of the book..."

He blankly looked at the overhead for a moment, then exclaimed, "Those bastards!!"

He'd also do physics problems that would invariably involve the messy demise of Republicans.

"Ok, if a Republican was standing here, and we launched a rocket from here...."
"If we dropped a Republican from a plane at this height....."

I had a teacher in high school (geometry and trig) who used to work out problems on an overhead using markers. One day he used blue and red washable marker, and when he went to spray it with windex to clean off the transparency, all the colors swirled together. He looked at it for a second, then starts laughing.

"Smurf blood!"

It's funny anyway, though.

I got all A's last year in math, now I have Algebra I, so I kind of understand.

5x > 3 + I or X < 31 - 4x

Anyone care to solve...? I mean its simple High School Math.
