dandy777 Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I am European and would love to ask some things mostly to those living in America. During this last decade, it has been really horrible over here with regards to schools and unruly behaving children. It is getting very common to hear stories where children or teens are physically and verbally abusing their teachers and little can be done to protect teachers and administrative staff because of the large amounts of rights that are being given to and promoted with teens. The situation is running out of hands. I don't know how the situation is getting on on the other side of the ocean but here it is getting quite scary.
Sojourner Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 We definitely have juvenile crime, but I'm not sure whether I'd say we have widespread unruliness. I know some kids who are quite well behaved, and others who aren't at all ...

toledo_jesus Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Yeah, I don't understand why teenagers need to be given special rights or whatever. Over here, I guess the best thing teens have got is that under 18 they can't be prosecuted as an adult. I don't know though. What exactly are the teens rights, so-called?
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 well teens have the right to contraception, and abortion on demand over here.
dandy777 Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 @ extra: no I am not talking about football hooligans but about unruly behaviour in class. A teacher has no right to check or punish the kid. By punishment I am not saying physical abuse but giving after schools or checking their satchels in case they carry any drug or cell phones or weapons. They are given lots of social services and contributions especailly those coming from broken families. Minors aren't prosecuted and are just sent in institutes or homes. Abortion and divorce are illegal in my country but when there is someone who wants to commit them, they just go abroad.
dandy777 Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 Well if you do a bit of a research, there are still very few countries where abortion and divorce are illegal. But I'll answer you so as to save you any pains in finding that out by yourself ... Malta. Guess you don't eveb know where the country is right?
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Yes i was pretty sure in Malta divorce and abortion were illegal, but i knew ireland also abortion was illegal and not sure about divorce. yes i know where malta is.

teachers over here don't generally do much checking of bags. We have security or police officers that now patrol our schools. There were some school shootings over here a few years back and so our public schools are a lot more like prisons now. We have metal detectors and the like. I don't really know about cell phones. When I was coming along they had a ban on pagers or beepers as those were considered drug paraphernalia.
dandy777 Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 Thank God we hagve never heard of shootings so far but maybe because it is quite difficult to get hold of a gun unless you know people in the black market. however we have problems relating with drugs and prostitution at a young age. However, I guess that we are bit by bit moving towards that end...which is really scary.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005
why were you so sure?
i was sure that divorce and abortion were illegel becasue Malta is a Catholic country.
melporcristo Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 a lot of studies have taken notice that many of the television shows feature teens that are always taking back to their parents and not having any respect for authority. I'm not gonna blame the TV but it's definately not helping kids learn how to repect those older than them.

Cathurian Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 You're the third person I've met online from Malta.

However, discipline has definitely suffered since they no longer allow teachers to spank students. And the phrase you were looking for was 'getting out of hand'....so close. zabbazooey Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 at my school we had 2 or 3 police officers....and when we had fights, they were bad. i remember when i transferred to a catholic high school, i was amazed that the kids didn't threaten the teachers or call them names...or smoke pot or cigarettes in the bathrooms...or come to school drunk.
