No, Sojourner, I did not decide to go into PR...

but I did join Weight Watchers. I realized I was running a little low on the virtue of temperance and I needed to be eating in more moderation, so I decided to go on a diet. It's so weird, though. My mom and I are both counting our points now, and it's driving my grandma nuts. My grandma's the one who cooks for us, and she was fine with my mom on the program, but after i joined 3 days ago she says she's going to assault me with a coagulated milk grater if I don't stop asking her how many servings of this and that she puts into the meals she cooks.

I suppose it's only "dark" if you want it to be. Some people make weight loss a religion, and their entire lives revolve around it. But I don't want that to be me.

So far it's not so bad, although I am a bit chocolate-deprived. Oh well, at least I can still have my 6 cups of coffee a day. I'm sure that's really healthy.

I am a wimp and must have cream in my coffee, so I am not so fortunate. :coffee:

I never joined Weight Watchers, but I have spent lots of time manually tracking every calorie, and each gram of fat, carbohydrate, and fiber, and protein. Also used an error-correcting graphing program to track my weight. :nerd:

After a few months everyone around me found it annoying. For while I would only go out to eat at Ruby Tuesday's, since they have calorie counts on the menu!

Nowadays I just stop eating from time to time. Probably not especially healthy. :idontknow:

Wow you guys have it tough. Tracking calories and all that stuff. For me 10 sets of 75 pushups, situps and squats every day has been more than enough to keep me slim and trim. Though nowadays I've ditched the situps for bridging, doesn't isolate muscle groups and works the core for the whole benefit of your body. Plus nowadays I do Hindu Squats and Hindu Pushups which are a lot more difficult hence the difficulty I have in pulling off half as many as the simple forms of both.

But we can only try, right? ;)

PS) Photo come back to Unphania. THE REAL Unphania. We need more people like you to oppose the rebel faction claiming the patrimony of Unphaniople

:ohno:

My thyroid was annihilated by my angry and confused immune system many years ago. This is fine... generally; I can take medicine. But (1) my metabolism cannot speed up to use excess calories, and (2) occasionally the medicine doesn't work and I gain weight like crazy.

Fortunately, I do like to run... but it's still not enough.

but it might be virtuous!

I've never done the calorie-counting thing before... it sounds like a lot of effort. It takes a lot of time to figure out how many points a pork chop is and whether you just ate a 3/4 of a cup of potatoes or 1 cup. Before I started counting points, I wasn't obsessed with food. I never really paid attention to what I ate or how nutritious it was. But now I'm starting to annoy myself, because I'm talking like the same people who I swore I'd never talk like. My mom and I were in the grocery store in the cereal aisle talking about dietary fiber. It's insane.

Tough break on the thyroid thing Phil. That must be irritating. I cant imagine how fat I'd become if my metabolism stopped working properly with my diet. University studen diet=takeaway fast food:  Though I agree starving yourself doesn't sound so great...

actually, the food at my college was very healthy. They tried extra hard to provide balanced meals. The problem was, they cooked their vegetables so strangely that I never wanted to eat them. Stress makes me eat a lot though, so last semester wasn't too good for me.

I used to walk a few miles every day in the warm weather and go to the gym when it was cooler out. I need to start doing that. Diets alone don't work. This week I'm going to try to get 30 minutes every day and then work my way up from there.

what exactly has been going on in unphania? I'm so out of the loop because things move so fast

In short with Philothea's help and some assistance from the Llama King we've successfully led a revolt and are now in control of Unphania. Prose and her faction have fled Unphania and created an Unphania in exile and I sense accordingly that our battle is far from over...

...in addition your right about diets. I always hated diets and I still do. I'd much rather work myself to sleep and wake up and have a BIG protein filled piece of meat than live on the diet of an anchorite. Not that I dont love hermits and all but I dont think thats my vocation.

That's good. I was worried for the eternal state of your soul for a second there.

apparently there's another part of the weight watchers plan called the "core plan," where you don't have to count points at all if you don't like that. You can eat as much as you want out of a list of "core foods." I decided that wasn't for me, though.

You say that now ... the paycheck gets more attractive with time.

Not that I'll ever join, mind you.

Not exactly... Your "revolt" consisted of 3 varying in allegiance members.

As for the diet, I have been considering WW too...

So have I. My mom's been pushing it.

Weight watchers is the way to go, it does work. I know, done it and have been successful. Let me caution you, the coffee has to go! They do not encourage you to drink caffinated beverages. You have to drink your water and that coffee does not count toward that. I gave up all caffine a few years ago, and have not missed it.....first few weeks were horrible but it can be done. Good luck photo!

oh MAN.... they probably will tell me to cut my caffeine intake down to 1 or 2 cups per day... how will I stay awake? That means I'll actually have to start getting reasonable amounts of sleep

actually i gave up coffee for Lent last year and was successful...

but it wasn't easy, and i wasn't having sleep issues...

although maybe i wasn't having sleep issues because i gave up caffeine...

Caffeine does have an effect on insomnia. You should try giving it up and see how you do.
