Brother Adam Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Would eggs be considered a meat product? Teresa is suppose to eat one a day via docs orders, but can she not eat them on Friday?
Sojourner Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 The only people who would put them into the meat category are vegans, aka "people I don't like to cook for."

dUSt Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Of course eggs are meat, that is, if you are truly pro-life. Only pro-choice people would not consider a chicken fetus real meat. Hypocrites.

Socrates Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Eggs are not considered meat. Eggs and dairy products are allowed on fast days, along with fish.

homeschoolmom Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Besides, I don't think pregnant women are under obligation to fast/abstain anyway... (if it's doctor's orders.... )
Brother Adam Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Yeah. Even though she is released from all of those types of obligations, that which she can still participate in safely, she will.

The Latin word used in canon law regarding abstainence from meat is "carnis." That Latin word specifically refers to land-based, warm-blooded animal products. "Piscis" is used to describe water-based animal product. That's why you can eat capybara during Lent. It's a rodent from South America, but it lives in the water, and when missionaries sent the pope a letter asking if they could eat it on Friday, the pope figured "Well, it's got scaley skin and lives in the water, I say fish," so he gave it his blessing. You can eat reptile meat, too, since they're not warm-blooded. So gator gumbo for Cajun Catholics on Fridays is legit. Man, I'm such a Catholic nerd. On an egg-related note,

That request makes sense because if someone hasn't eaten meat for a long time some hamburger or bacon grease can make them really sick for a little bit.
AngelofJesus Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 mmmmm.... bacon grease....yummy! Hey! Is that ok for tomorrow?

Proud2BCatholic139 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I was going to say, I have been having egg sandwhiches for the past hmmm....all my Fridays of Lent.
