I understand that one. At the last Confirmation retreat I helped on, we had 206 youth for 35 college leaders (Me as 1) First rule no cell phones period. five min later about 3 went off.

I did that to only at the beginning of the retreat the (you know big) leader had a box and said bring your cell phones up.

Well at the end of the retreat she was going to give back the phones but before she did my friend (who is also on the retreat team) said be honest how many of you kept your cell phones.
About 40 out 60 kids raised their hands,

Oh yeah, so we were allowed to confiscate on an individual basis. There was another retreat that I was on that they confiscated all watches, clocks, cellphones, iPods, and anything else that could be a distraction. It was the best retreat I have ever be on.

I only had to turn in my watch.

They weren't supposed to iPods either. One girl brought hers and lost it and started blaming people for stealing it. Pitched a huge fit.

The only one allowed to have an iPod on the Confirmation retreat I was on, was the priest leading the retreat. He had all the music for the skits and mellow worship time.

What is wrong with women wearing pants. I know you are ultra-traditional, but that shouldn't mean that you believe women should wear dresses only. That's not ultra-traditional, rather it sounds a little like opression. I understand the jeans and shorts thing as I too believe that it is proper to dress in you best Sunday attire, but women shouldn't have to not wear nice slacks.

Sam, just an observation:

You seem less concerned about keeping the real Traditions of the Church, and more concerned about keeping all traditions, period. I mean, railing off about wearing pants? Honestly Sam.. I know you love the Church and all of her Tradition and tradition, but traditions can change. No one wants Tradition to change.

What really grinds my gears is when kids are loud and act out, it always seems mostly at the consecration and homily, and parents don't even attempt to quiet them down. That REALLY grinds my gears.

Sam, it is a tradition. Its all about what is modest, and what was considered modest back then. It was traditionally considered that skirts and dresses on women was the way they should show modesty. However, today, they make pants for women, so it is possible for them to still dress modestly.

I think it is very silly to worry about whether or not women wearing pants is a sin. And if it is, it is how they are wearing them or what kind or what is on them, not the fact that they are pants.

I really don't want to sound mean, but that's ridiculous. Do you honestly think that Christ is looking down on us and going "Aaarrggghhh, those stupid women are sinning by wearing pants! Everything is ruined now!"

Seriously, practices can change. And if you're going to take Church writings on this to back your point up, just remember the time and context that those were written in.

For example, in the Bible in Jeremiah, he says to beware of the heathens who cut down trees and decorate them. Back then, it was bad to do that because people worshipped the trees. Does this mean that it is a sin to have a Christmas tree now? Of course not, since we don't worship them. However, if one did not look at the time and context of this writing, he could come to the conclusion that Christmas trees are sinful.

Get what I'm saying?
