dUSt Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 A movie, written and directed by the same peeps who did Napoleon Dynamite, with Jack Black, about a priest who wrestles to raise money for his orphanage. It simply doesn't get any better than this: http://www.nacholibre.com I'm there opening day.

TheOliverOrder88 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Actually that sounds pretty funny nonetheless....if they do it right.

dUSt Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 If you think Napoleon Dynamite was a horrible movie, then you sir, are a horrible person. DANG!
musturde Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Yes, seeing a movie I won't enjoy far as much as my friends way before they see it is a jolly good feeling.
scardella Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 (edited) From the preview of it I saw, it didn't seem to have much respect for the vow of celibacy. That's my big worry about it. Maybe I'm just being judgemental... Edited June 6, 2006 by scardella

chris Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Yeah he does try to earn the respect of the nun in a bad way. Furthermore, when outside of the church has celibacy ever been respected, with regards to christianity. I have seen countless comendations on buddist celibacy, from the matrix. So yeh, hollywood does a good job on mucking up the good stuff. Other than that I wanna see it.
dUSt Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 First of all, he's just the cook, and I don't think they take a vow of celibacy. Secondly, you have to remember the guy who wrote this film is a devout mormon, so I doubt he would disrespect religion or be the typical hollywood stereotype. Thirdly, just like Napoleon Dynamite, it''s rated PG. Not PG-13, but PG. How many movies have that rating nowadays?

I did re-watch the trailers, and I decided I need to lighten up a little. I think I'd really have to watch the whole thing before I proclaim it as mocking celibacy. It is alarming, though, when he flexes his butt to impress the nun girl. Like I said, I sometimes need to lighten up.

DemonSlayer Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 It seems interesting, but I'll have to read Catholic reviews first before making up my mind whether I'd want to see it or not, since it may be anti-Catholic or mocks the celibacy of priests/nuns.
I'm a Catholic, and here's a review. Since this movie is going to be liked by the fans of Napolean Dynomite (although much better than that piece of GARBAGE), I decided that it wouldn't be fair to rate it with an open mind. However, it does not bash Catholicism (unless you get very easily offended...). I am I am, I know I am, I think I am, I feel I am.... "I don't believe in God, I believe in Science!" "Where are the chips?" "Some random man stole them from me." "Did you tell him they were the Lord's chips?!" "Can I come in?" "No." "Why not" "We don't want people to get the wrong idea about you sister...." "What are you doing?" "I was just sleeping." "With that on?" "Yes, umm these are my pajamas." "I thought you said you hated every orphan in the world!" "I changed, I like them now." Edited June 7, 2006 by musturde
