i used to think i was a stupid idea for a movie but the more i watch the previews the more i cant wait to see it

Posted

Don't get high expectations for it. That never works well with movies. It was good but will get old VERY SOON after people watch it and quote it to death. This is why i quote it before it comes out..

yeah movies are the same as songs, ppl talk about them forever and then all the fun is took out of watching it untill like 5 months after the hype dies.

Don't monks also take a vow not to fight? That should be a vow if it isn't.

As men of God, I don't think they would fight. Vow or no vow.

he sure looks like a friar not a cook to me.

be careful of this movie... St. Phil Neri was about cheerfulness and laughter but didnt throw prudence out the window. i mean there is a friar wrestler and an attractive nun... can they pull off this movie w/o offending?

ps: yes, Napoleon was basically harmless unless you're a llama or cow but i'm not sure of this Nacho movie..

He is a friar and he is the cook. Yes they did pull it off without affending anyone... Napoleon dynamite was harmul because of how much of a terrible movie it was.

:P: Well I was thinking of going to see the movie maybe Friday or Saturday.
The impression I get from the movie is this.It appears that these Franciscans(at least the habit looks that way) run an orphanage in Mexico that is poor..Jack Black is one of the friars,a laybrother
who does the cooking and is terrible at it. Anyhow he decides to become a wrestler to help the orphans. And yes,in the one shot where he flexes his butt in his strechy pants,it does seem as if he is trying to impress the sister, who seems to have a horrifid look on her face as he does it.
It looks silly enough. And may offend a few,but we will just have to watch it.but it can't be anyworse than some such movies that have come out in recent years.

Actually, he has "priestly powers" in the film. They send him to a dying man to give last rites.

the previews show that they are trying to trigger sexual tension with the nun. I wont see it because of that

The nun does nothing with him. He says stupid stuff like "maybe we can break our vows with eachother some time". But like they don't actually do anything and you don't get the idea that they ever will. It just makes Jack Black sound stupid.

I'm glad I have read through this thread. Now I know basically what I'm up against. I haven't completely decided whether to see it or not.

I'll wait and see what you guys think of it before I decide to go see it (of course it also depends on whether or not my friends want to see it too, but I'm sure they will).

Here's more information from Jack Black.
"He loves the Lord but he also secretly loves Lucha Libre, Mexican wrestling, the excitement and the thrills of that life," Black says about his character, who's tormented "because priests are not supposed to wrestle."
I guess this means he is a priest.

Curious about those condemning change of vocations, what do you think about The Sound of Music?
