AlterDominicus Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Hon! NET has got to be about the coolest place on earth! I live in Minnesota. NET is my graceland. BE assured of my prayers!!! Extremely big! (Sorry got a little carried away. Hehe)
Ok... I've been hijacking another NET thread long enough. Here's the situation: I think I'm called to do NET. (National Evangelization Team www.netusa.org) I still have the interview to go through, but I need to be prepared financially if I get accepted... When I started out w/ the application, I knew it'd be financially tight. They ask for a $3000 or so donation for health insurance, etc. I figured that I'd be ok, though, if I watched my spending. I'm supposed to go up on July 14 to do the interview weekend. The plane ticket for the interview weekend was probably $100 more than I expected. I'll have to buy 2 more 1-way tickets and another 2-way (some $500-600, probably) ticket for getting to and from the NET year. I'm now realizing that I'll have to defer my student loans and raise money to actually do NET. I really wanted to keep up with the payments... I have to keep up w/ my car insurance payments, because I'm part of my parents' plan (though I'm going to relist it as inactive or whatever). I was also hoping that my boss would grant me a leave of absence if I get accepted. He told me today that he won't grant it. If I do NET, I'll have to quit my job entirely. My car (read: my lifeline; I commute an hour each day) needs a little bit of work, I just noticed.... It looks like I might have to take it in to get new tires (around $400...) and new brake rotors/pads (total $100). I also realized that I might have to get some winter clothes and other gear for the year... it's like all these expenses are adding up, one on top of the other... It's like a game of poker... do I really trust that God will come through, or do I fold and keep the status quo? I know that I'll be fine financially if I stay put. I won't have as many costs, and I'll continue to have income. If I go, it'll be risky but exhilarating. I haven't had this much of a sense of purpose since I graduated from college. I've been muddling through post-collegiate life following the logical: kill debt, save a little (but not much!), look for my future wife. It's been tough. I've felt much better since I've started going through the application process, but it still is stressful. PRAY FOR ME! (PM me if you're independently wealthy and/or want to donate to the NET fund.) homeschoolmom Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006
I didn't get in.
You're kidding! I'm really sorry.
scardella Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006
You're kidding! I'm really sorry.
Quite honestly, I still think that it is something that God's calling me to do. Everything on my end of the discernment process seemed to be leading directly that way. I've responded to their letter, saying that. I cannot force anything (nor do I want to), but I'm not just going to roll over, either.
scardella Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006
Can you reapply?
I didn't get the "we want you to reapply later" letter...
scardella Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 I'm going to call them again. This is my last chance. I know now that I'll never convince them. If anyone is going to convince them, it is Our Lady. She is the mistress of my heart, and it will only be through her that I have any chance. I beg anyone to say a rosary for me and for Dave, that our hearts may be open to the Holy Spirit, and that God's Will may be done. I went to a prayer meeting tonight, and it was a big confirmation that I at least try this one last time.
scardella Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 Well, here's the story from the last couple of days: They were completely unresponsive, and wouldn't even tell me why they didn't want me. The more that happens, the less I want to do it anyway. I stated quite a number of objective reasons why I thought that I was cut out for it, and they simply refused to offer anything other than, "Well, sorry! There's lots of other ministries. Try one of those."
Guest Rick777 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I'm speechless. You seem like you would be great there. Thats their loss.
morostheos Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Sorry you didn't get accepted. Just remember, "When the Lord closes a door, somewhere he opens a window." Take heart, God has a plan, even if it doesn't seem to make any sense right now. I'm praying for you.
missionseeker Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 maybe He just closes the window to get you to look at the door?
