cmaD2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Count me in too ... both broke and praying. -- Carmen (Hi Brandee and DonnaMarie )
OLAM Dad Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 (edited) I keep a copy of St. Alphonsus' book, Preparation for Death, on my nightstand. I highly recommend this book (especially for youth who think they are never going to die. . A little phamily trivia - phatdaddy's (Mr. Ray) wife (uruviel's mother) is the person who introduced me to this book, props to her! Edited August 17, 2006 by OLAM Dad
Guest phatdaddy Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I'm sorry Donna Marie, I couldn't resist it any more. I love you guys and I offer my prayers for this "mission". I have 1 kid in college and 3 at home so I think that qualifies me as being broke. I love Dominicans, I vist them every chance I get. I love Franciscans and I've worn a path between my house and OLAM. Alphonsus is awesome. Dominic is awesome. Francis and Clare what can I say. Let's not forget Therese either and of course our dear Mama. Anyway I would be honored if I could be a member of this awesome prayer club. Mr. Ray

Mr. Ray
O Mr. Ray, we would be honoured with you as a member. I love the line " I have 1 kid in college and 3 at home so I think that qualifies me as being broke". : I have a friend who is a Trappist priest and he asks to be a member and so this group is growing in ways I hadn't planned. As much as I do like to play I do take intercessory prayer seriously because I believe it is one of my gifts. What is wonderful about the Vocation Station and this little group is that we are praying and supporting each other in prayer. I have no doubt our friends, and family in heaven are interceding for us and we will see the fruit. This summer has been very difficult for me at work and I was becoming very discourage as to whether I would ever be able to enter. It was a telephone call from Brandee, the intercession of St. Clare and the loving embrace of our Beloved that strengthened me. The battle continues at work with the owners of our practice placing our supervisor on probation. This leaves the bulk of the work in my hands again. Yet the grace of your prayers have helped and instead of reacting with sorrow, I was able to come to our Lord and bless His help so that I was able to make through this difficult day and ask His Help for over the next few weeks. The office is asking me for a firm date of my leaving and I have agreed that I would give one month's notice. I also said to the Lord with a smile that I wouldn't mind a bucket of money coming to me at this time but I will wait upon Him.

brandelynmarie Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Hello Carmen! & to the phamily! There's quite a number of us from other forums on here.... This is all so awesome.... God is so good....I like to quote a certain Tevye from "The Fiddler on the Roof"..."If money is a curse, may God smite me with it!" (Of course, I'm joking aboutthe smiting part...
zunshynn Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I always am amazed at how many saints and blesseds there are within each order that the rest of us lowly folk have never heard of! We're in such good company!
Margaret Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006
Count me in, even though I'm proudly flying the Benny colours over here! Yesterday I was at Stanbrook for St. Maximilian's feast; it was very beautiful (although overshadowed - I'm sure St. Maximilian doesn't mind in the slightest - by the vigil of Our Lady's Assumption which began in the evening) I'm struggling to get rid of my debts too, although as the situation in with UK debts is somewhat different I have to do more looking up. Love and prayers, PP
Im going franciscan here : but I definatly will be praying for you girls. I am not in debt since I just graduated HS but I am waiting for them to build the monastery. pray for me to
brandelynmarie Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Allo! Oh, & Rose_of_Sharon...Which community will you be entering? If you don't want to share that info, that's ok...

bmb144 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Please count me in too. Also the foundress of the Tyburn Order(Mother Mary of St Peter ), is really good for money based matters, and her case for canonisation has been introduced in Rome at the moment. So, could we please add her to the prayer list also. Lord, glorify your servant, Mother Mary of St Peter that your Servant may glorify YOU! In His Light aka Belinda

passionheart Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 (edited) On the suggestion of Sr. Mary Catherine, OP we have the addition of two more saints: 1) St. Pio ie Padre Pio. (Also another friend for the Franciscan Vocations) 2) Blessed Br. Andre Bessette, Holy Cross Brother. Now Sister's second suggestion, Br.Andre is very interesting to me for the following reasons. First, he is a Canadian so it will be nice to appeal to a fellow countryman. Secondly, I am consecrated to St. Joseph and the main place of pilgrimage for me when I want to honour "Papa" is St. Joseph Oratory in Montreal. Br. Andre loved St. Joseph and through his work and prayers St. Joseph Oratory came into being. Here is the website link http://www.saint-joseph.org/ As well, Bl. Br. Andre taught me a thing or two about service. When the sisters at the Monastery in Buffalo said I would be an extern sister with them, I wasn't too happy about it. Why? I thought that the only reason why the sisters mentioned it to me was because they thought I couldn't handle the cloister. So when I was there for my aspirancy, I wanted to prove to them that I could handle the cloister. Later, I started to think about all the saints who were porters or who had simple duties that gave them contact with the public. It was this life of service that helped them lead a life that burned with God's love and light. Afterwards, I realized I was very wrong to consider the life of an extern sister to be "less of a vocation" and when I went to St. Joseph Oratory to celebrate St. Joseph's feast day, I paid visit to Bl. Br. Andre's tomb. I asked for his help to live this call with love and humility as he lived his call as a porter for the Holy Cross brother. I felt confirmed in being called to be an extern when Sr. Mary Catherine in a separate email to me described it as a vocation. I didn't think of it as a vocation but only as just another job in the Monastery that needed to be done. Now, I am excited to live this call : and like Bl. Br. Andre be an instrument of God's grace. I may not accomplish anything as grand such as the St. Joseph's Oratory but maybe I can be the instrument that God's uses to tell someone that He loves them. Edited August 26, 2006 by passionheart

I may not accomplish anything as grand such as the St. Joseph's Oratory but maybe I can be the instrument that God's uses to tell someone that He loves them.
Being an extern IS a beautiful vocation within a vocation. It is being Martha-Mary, it is being one of the Holy Women who served Jesus, it is being Mary who says, "Do whatever He tells you!" My first year in the monastery I had a real pull toward the extern vocation because of my childhood memories of Poor Clare externs who embodied the love of Jesus in a concrete way. Our community doesn't have externs and at this point not intending to because we have such a good network of volunteers. However, as one of the very few sisters who does drive and so is the one who does do necessary business outside (such as going to the airport!) I value the extern vocation even more and am thrilled that you will be serving the monastery in that way. In monastic life, in the end, each sister serves the monastery according to how the prioress asks and through her Christ. You're right! there are many saints who have served in this vocation. Think of St. Martin de Porres, too! He's our big brother much loved by us all! God bless you! Sr. Mary Catharine
brandelynmarie Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 : Beautiful! I always think of Venerable Solanus Casey...he was a porter too & was a simplex priest....he could not hear confessions or preach homilies...& so he did al ot of the work of the brothers...I love him....
When I was in Stanbrook this summer, the guest sister, Sr. Julian, told me about how externs used to be considered slightly inferior - and how that is "completely rubbish, naturally". And a Carmelite nun I used to talk a lot with once joked that you recognise a good cloistered nun by her wish to become extern and a good extern by the opposite! I think it basically all comes down to that the best place you can be is the place you're supposed to be. It's nice to see you're so well on your way to finding that place.
