It is a chlorinated sucrose dervative that has cuases swelling of the liver and kidneys, reduced fetal weight, aborted pregnancy, and al kinds of other great stuff. Jabberwocky
I presented a speech on artificial sweeteners two years ago...but, in their favor, you would have to drink a whole heck of a lot of diet sodas in one sitting in order for those side affects to matter much. Unless you're a phenylketonuric. Then you're in trouble. And stay far, far away from Sweet 'N Low!!
HomeTeamFamily
the key to all this diet stuff is moderation aspartame and splenda and all the other stuff is only dangerous if ingested in large amounts also, in my mind, the fda wouldnt approve something that caused all those diseases if ingested in the amount that is used to sweeten a diet coke or even 100 diet cokes be rational here people
MissScripture
Yes, as Jabberwocky said, unless you're a phenylketonuriac, those things aren't going to affect you unless you're consuming in mass amounts. We have an enzyme to break that stuff down. If you don't, you're a pheynlkeotnuriac. And if you're a phenylketonuriac you'll know it, and you'll know what not to eat. Hence, the warning about phenylkeotonuria on the can.
toledo_jesus
splenda causes miscarriage? Holy crow, that has to be skewed.
Dudette
What the heck are we supposed to eat here people? I can barely eat sugar because my sugar levels hype up so fast, I don't eat aspartame for obvious reasons. I only eat so much splenda, so it's like...... Okay, let's go without any type of sugar, just get your sugar from apples and fruit.
2xbob
Bah, I keep seeing this "aspartame in moderation is ok" stuff but then it hit me, unless you are hyperglycemic or have diabetes, sugar is ok in moderation too. Looking at it from that angle, I'll take the good stuff God has given us (and has been field tested for thousands of years).
