Pontifex
So as many of you know my presence at phatmass, at least on the website, has been minimal and that is going to change. The reason it has been so minimal is that I have been in the process of forming a parish in many different ways. Things are starting to even out. One the big changes recently was to move the choir and the organ out of the sanctuary and into the back of Church. So I'm in the confessional and I hear two women in the hallway, forgetting that I hear everything from my booth, complaining about the change and one woman said that she had been in the parish for 41 years and never seen anything like it. After mass I made following statements; "I know that with any change to a Church there will be the tendency to complain and grumble. I just want to remind you that in the days of Moses, the people complained and grumbled as well and they were bitten by snakes. I have a box in the sacristy, the contents of which will be released if I see necesarry." Thank God they laughed. I kill me.... Have a wondeful phatmass kinda day. Maggyie
Which would be worse, snakes in a church or snakes on a plane? Clearly, snakes in a church.
Norseman82
I can see it now: "SNAKES IN A CHURCH" Starring Fr. Pontifex as St. Patrick.. With a special guest appearance by me as McGyver.. Watch for the sequel: "SNAKES IN AN AVATAR" Starring Fr. Pontifex, cmom, and Budge.... (If you've browsed the debate table, you'll get it....) He wanted to bring in Eucharistic adoration, but some members of the order, no kidding, said, "we won't allow cookie-worship here." So the campus minister got the auxiliary bishop, also a member of the order, to start the Eucharistic adoration program. : Sometimes, you've just got to stick it to 'em. Pontifex
Cookie Worship!!! If a nun or brother priest said that to me, I would release some snakes in their chapel. Seriously. Cookie Worship. Geesh.
Mercy me
After reading this post this morning, I walked out of mass this evening behind a little boy with a 4 foot stuffed snake. Couldn't help but laugh.
Pontifex
That is awesome!!!! I have found that joking about it has helped defuse the grumble. I'll have to remember that when I put tile back in the sanctuary next month. Blessings.
Groo the Wanderer
Booyah to you , Father P! I sent a note of thanks to my pastor for putting the 'smells and bells' back into the liturgy. JuCa
Father... your snakes comment was great! I was thrilled to see the choir missing in the front. Tile in the sanctuary will be awesome! When are you starting? I guess I'll probably have to look forward to seeing an improved look to the parish when I come home to visit! Already look forward to the day. I was thinking today in Mass- how perfect the gathering room would be for a Perpetual Adoration chapel. Think about it. Back into Phatmass... I haven't been here in a while.. Pontifex
JuCa, Thanks. The pews are now up again covering up the spot where the choir used to be, and the Church is once again symetrical. Yeah the tile is going down starting next Tuesday. It will be throughout and the ugly grey carpet will be ripped up, Thank the Lord! The Words Veni Sancte Spiritus will be on the top three steps below the altar and a Mosaic medallion of the Holy Spirit (A replica of the Holy Spirit window at St. Peter's Basillica) will be inlaid in the middle of the Sanctuary. It will be different for sure when you return for a visit. You may see some of the changes before you leave. Pontifex
