The girl wanted to get the abortion. So she's hardly the victim the guy tries to make her.

And the mother's rights weren't violated, since I don't think parents have any legal rights to force their child to NOT have an abortion. Just like they can't force their children to have abortions.

Looks like any other abortion story to me.

Of course, it's a tragedy that a 14-year-old got pregnant in the first place.

you cant just say she 'wanted' it. It was clear as day she was coerced into it. The worst part is that the mother couldnt even contact her and was taken by the police. At that point, if I were there, and the cops told me to 'take it up with my senator' I would have probably gone hostile.

but that's definitely the biggest word here: COERCION
it's how Planned Parenthood maintains their death toll; it's how the guy and his parents got their way...

She agreed to it. I guess it's hard to say more without knowing her side of the story.

The PP people probably knew only that the girl came there saying she wanted abortion. So obviously the mother seemed like she was trying kidnap her or something. I don't think the PP are evil, they just wanted to help the girl get an abortion because they thought that's what she really wanted. I'm not sure it's fair to speak of coercion if the people at PP were doing everything with good intentions.

But your right about the guy and his parents. The guy was clearly abusing his influence over her. They had no right to insist on abortion.

see, I try to see the supporter's of the pro-choice movement in this way, the ones who seem to think it is compassion on the women to allow abortion to be legal (it helps with dialogue) but I dont think I can look at Planned Parenthood that way. They have had undignified intentions from their beginning with Margaret Sanger being so into eugenics and all. Because of that I dont think I'll ever see Planned Parenthood as having 'good intentions.'

(I guess planned parenthood wasnt involved with this case; I just brought them up.)

Around the same time the news was focusing on Terri Schiavo, this girl got pregnant with her boyfriend, and her parents were baptist and did not want an abortion. Her mom even took her to the doctor and they got an ultrasound and found out it was a boy. Eventually, she decided she wanted to name him Bradley. Her boyfriend (and his parents especially) did not want to have the child. Apparently his mother had had several abortions, "and wouldnt think twice about having it done again." The girl still had somewhat of an attachment to him and did not want to displease him. Eventually, the guy's mother called the girl's school and posed as her grandmother, calling her on sick for the day. They drove to her house that morning (her parents weren't home at that time) and she did not expect them (she knew they didnt want the child, but they did not tell her they were coming to drive her to the abortion mill) They drove her to 'hope' abortion mill. By the time the mother realized what was happening and arrived at the mill, she had already gone through the operation and the mother wasnt allowed to see her daughter. She was escorted away by police after shouting her daughter's name, looking for her. The guy and his mother left afterwards for a vacation in florida, and the girl was left to the discharge staff.

that's the gist of it. I guess I might have lost some facts, so anyone can fill in if they want.

Ash Wednesday

I watched the related video of the 911 calls from the abortion clinic, too. Pretty awful. Like the caller in saying "We have a possible perforation -- we need a transport but no lights or sirens -- do you have to have lights or sirens?" Gee, is that because you're more concerned about people noticing there is trouble at your clinic, as opposed to being concerned about the welfare of the woman and people knowing to get out of the way, because there is an ambulance coming?

And the poor woman who had her child come out whole 2 days after the attempted abortion -- she held it in the palm of her hand.
