I'd think, now, that the consititution would prevent any state from becoming officially any religion.

Why Indiana though? What's wrong with Ohio? ;)

Why wouldnt this make you happy?

Allah supposely being God and all according to Catholic teaching--Nostra Aetate.

You could go set up some Catholic mosques.

1) Indiana would not become Muslim. Unless the demographics wildly changed.

2) It's unconstitutional. There were several states that had official state religions back in the day, but that was done away with early on in U.S. history.

2 items:

1.) The Establishment Clause prevents a State Religion. Period.

2.) Maryland was founded by Recusant Catholics. Before the Constitution was written (by which time, the Catholic identity of Maryland was already heavily diluted).

Lastly: If a State (or rather, the population thereof) wished to "become Muslim" (by that, I guess you mean "adopt Sharia"), it would violate the Equal Protection clause, by mandating "different" Rights to Women and non-Muslims. No go.

Islam has, historically, not expanded well in the absence of military conquest. The exception being Malaysia, which was managed by the economic dominance of the Islamic merchants (nothing says "join up" like being filthy rich).

hoosieranna

I'm not sure where the idea for this thread originated, but I have to express my perplexity. I'm a Hoosier. CAIR did used to be based in Plainfield-a while ago. They've since moved to Washington, DC. What's your beef?

Hey, Im just pointing out the obvious, sorry if it hit a nerve, but folks look at what your church teaches and the confusion it leads into.
Not all Catholics believe that Muslims worship the true God.
Sure I know there are Trad Catholics who reject Vatican II and what the latest Popes have taught.

I respect them in that they at least hold consistently to the first commandment even if they get other things wrong such as what the Catholic Church is really about.

I seem to remember something about the government won't make laws prohibiting or establishing an official religion...
