Altar Server Fun Night!

So, in an effort for the Altar Servers to get to know each other and to reward them for all their hard work, I decided to have something I called "Altar Server Fun Night." It was a lot of...fun and the kids really enjoyed themselves.

And, before anyone says anything, yes, I am wearing my clerics "loosely" but I was juggling and it is kind of hard to juggle with full clerics on.

Comment on the pics if you like

Christ never said that being a juggling priest would be easy Father.

You're a good guy

Agreed, we definitely know you by your fruits. :)

Looks like the kids enjoyed themselves, though I envy your Wii. :hehehe:

Indeed. :) Looks like a fun time was had by all.

It was a fun time, so much so, that we are doing it again this month (those pics are from before Lent). They have been constantly asking me when we are having another one, so I figured, in light of all the work they did for Holy Week and Easter we would have another one in a few weeks. I had to buy more balloons (they really liked learning how to make balloon animals) and, most of them did try to learn how to juggle, but there was so much for them to do that they did not stick with one thing too long.

It was kind of like a big ADD world :) so much to do with so many distractions :)

Though, on this night Rock Band went over the best, they were all singing and having a great time, and the younger ones enjoyed Mario and Sonic Olympics for the Wii.

A few of the Altar Servers requested DDR for the next one, so I just got that, what an impossible game...I feel like I have two left feet playing it ;)

Hopefully, the next one goes over as well as this one did.

And, hot stuff, you are right, even John Bosco and St. Francis knew that to be true :)

If you plan on doing this often my suggestion would be to "rotate out" some, if not most, of the activities. Of course, with things like the WII its really too expensive to do that, but if you bring something like DDR then don't bring another game.

And other random skills are fun...perhaps a "milk jug" band?

That line made me laugh out loud. It looks like the kids had a blast, I am sure this next one will be a hit as well!

God bless you for actually being with the kids and playing with them! so many adults and priests will be there, but not actually hang with the kids.

Well, as my mom pointed out to my pastor, I was actually the biggest kid there ;)

It takes a lot for kids to get bored, especially if they don't have it all the time. Since this is not all the time they look forward to what they had before, and will maybe try something that hadn't done last time. So, even though you may have a point about rotating activities, until they get bored with them, then I will start rotating. As for right now, I will let them enjoy everything until they tell me about something new, or make another request, something else they may find fun, and I am not talking just video games.

Looks like they all had a blast. :) By the way, I didn't realise you were in that part of NJ. My cousin is getting married in Convent Station in August, which I think is close-by.

the trick is to rotate before kids don't get board. ;) Whenever you add something new "retire" something for that meeting.

when did it become exceptable to use children as altar servers? I know it is comonly done everywhere even at my parish. I much prefer to see young adults to adults being altar servers. Just curious if anyone knew. I know it is often more convenient and easier to get kids to do it, but I was curious.

Actually, it used to only be children, and only boys, it was believed, in fact, many vocations were born from it, but, as far as I know, it has always been commonplace to use children.

If I were able to get to his wedding, I'd have to look you up. I do think some other Phatmassers will be there, my cousins (Marielapin & Bullnachinashop).

BTW, when in August? I am taking some vacation the second week of August. If it is then, you are still welcome to stop by. Besides, we have Perpetual Adoration :)

2 August. And I cuddle with my weeble and wub that you have Perpetual Adoration! I wish our parish did, but our priest doesn't really have the time (he runs 3 parishes in the area, at least 2 of which have schools attached to them).

Oh, I won't be around. I was thinking of being a chaplain for clown school again, but even if I don't, I have that week off as well.
