Balthazor Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 NO to all of the above..... Go for lemon filled. Tastey and delicious and just think... in addition to all that sugar and empty carbohydrates you get a vitamin C! Neither of my sisters had a wedding cake. We never missed it to be honest.... ONe had sheet cakes or various flavors which went over really well and the other had home made cookies in the shape of snowflakes. In both cases they saved a couple hundred dollars and the guests were still happy.

It's one my mom's cousin e-mailed to me. I was too lazy to go scan the wedding pictures. I do see in a couple of them that we had chocolate somewhere! lol My husband is a big chocolate lover (he prefers chocolate cake and ice cream above all others lol) so I KNOW we had both. There are actually 4 layers. The top "box" part of the steeple is cake, too. It was supposed to be the one we ate on our first anniversary but it got left in my mother's freezer and my brother ate it! lol
That's pretty. And James read that and said if anyone eats our cake, they're dead.
White cake seems most appropriate. Eating of the wedding cake is rather cermonial than anything else....weddings I've always been at had other treats besides the cake.
Um, well, at most/all weddings I've been to, it's kinda the main "treat" type thing, as it will be at ours. The only other sweets will be the mints made by my grandma, and those will be gone in about 6.3 seconds after their appearance.
Pineapple. Our tiered cake had 3 tiers: 2 pineapple (including the top tier that we only saved until our 1-month anniversary before eating), and 1 tier was white. Oh, and it had real buttercream frosting. Then we had a chocolate sheet cake that was pretty much like melted chocolate, with more chocolate on top.
That sheet cake sounds amazing!
Perhaps it was a blessing, I've heard of couples getting sick from year-old cake. As we all know from that occasional thing we've bought and not used, freezers aren't time machines - food still goes bad, just slower. Two friends of ours are making our cakes. Our cakes will be chocolate cupcakes and apple spice cupcakes (sugar, wheat, egg, milk, etc free cupcakes*). * I don't have the recipe yet, but it's freakin' awesome. It's like cake-free cake - but tastes sooo good.
If there's none of that stuff in it, how does it stay together? Edited August 10, 2008 by MissScripture

Long answer: well, it's spelt and rice flour (I have guest with gluten problems) Stevia (it's a natural sweetener... diabetic guests, and the cake maker herself is allergic to cane sugar), apple sauce (actually can replace eggs in some cases... guest with egg allergies/vegans) and soy milk (lactose intolerant/ deathly-allergic-to-milk-protein guests) As you can imagine, coming up with dinner has caused more than a few tears of frustration...

The only things I have to worry about are eggs and nuts for a family I babysit for, and they just can't have nuts on their table (although we're skipping them all together, but that was what they told me for my high school grad party). And we will just make a separate cake for them. As far as vegetarians/vegans go, on my side of the family, they come with the understanding that our family eats meat, and will at any family gathering, and if they chose not to, that's fine, but it's up to them to provide their own food, then. Part of that is because there are so many relatives that it's hard to keep track of who is and who isn't, and if they will or won't be showing up. There have been problems at other family gatherings of going through all sorts of trouble to make sure there was stuff for them to eat, and then they couldn't come, anyway. On top of that, I don't know if the place I'm having the reception even has vegetarian options, much less vegan!
Balthazor Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I still say to go with the lemon cake.... or carrot cake. I never liked bakery cakes in chocolate, or white. Too sweet.....

I think I had marble for my graduation party, which I liked. But I do love chocolate or marble...that's what has been my birthday cake since I turned five, and probably before, since my mom loves chocolate. Not that we expected them to bring their own food, necessarily, but there was enough food on their plate that they could skip the chicken if they wanted. I don't actually have any family that's vegetarian or with serious food allergies so it wasn't even an issue with our meal planning.

As far as the wedding goes, they can chose not to eat the meat or whatever, since that's a preference. But, of course, the food allergies are a bigger deal.

It's for you, your sacrament and celebration. It's nice to make everything pleasant for your guests, you want them to have fun and enjoy celebrating with you. But, you can only do just so much before it's over the top and ridiculous to be bending over so far backwards to please a handful of people.

(My husband was only a student there for a couple semesters. He decided that it was way too expensive since his field was computers and he could get the exact same credits in a more updated learning environment [as in, using real computers instead of a chalkboard and notebooks] for a much more reasonable fee.) Since he was settled there I moved there when we got married; he also has a sister who lives there with her family, so it was nice being close to them (her husband is the owner of catholicposters.com).
Selah Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Chocolate...though if I can suggest....my friend used confetti cake for her wedding cake
