Will Obama's Vp Pick Harm Him?

CNN has an interesting story: "Some in Clinton circle 'outraged'"

The outrage over Clinton is a bit louder now that word of Obama never even considering Clinton is public. Maybe Obama's ego is going to get in his way. Some of the CNN article is as follows:
...some in her circle are furious Barack Obama did not appear to give the New York Democrat serious consideration for the No. 2 spot, or even ask for her consultation on the matter.

"Set aside that Obama said she'd be on anybody's short list, set aside anybody's feelings on whether she was deliberately snubbed and the pros and cons of whether it should be her," a former Clinton strategist told CNN's Candy Crowley. "Focus on the politics of it and you have about a quarter of Clinton loyalists still not joining the caravan…for God's sake, not to even make a show of taking her seriously is flatly stupid."

A top Clinton advisor also told CNN they were "outraged," over how the process was conducted.

"You can't put [Obama VP vetters] Eric Holder and Caroline Kennedy on an hour plane ride to Chappaqua just to check the box? They should have done it just for the optics," this person said. "Barack never even said to her, 'Here's how I envision the job'– not one discussion with her about [the position]."

"They thought her supporters were mad before? They are really mad now," this person also said. We knew it was never going to happen but you would have thought they might at least make a show of it."

Former Clinton strategist Paul Begala echoed similar frustrations on CNN Friday night.

"I think there are a lot of Hillary voters who are going to say, 'Hey, wait a minute, man You said you were going to put her on the short list. You know, you didn't even vet her. You didn't call her. You didn't seek her advice,'" Begala said. "By the way, he didn't seek President Clinton's advice either. He's actually the guy who I think picked the best vice president in American history. You would think maybe you would sort of check in with him."
Another interesting story at Fox News: "Biden’s Embellishments Could Provide Easy Fodder for GOP." The article lists a few odd statements and embellishments, all of the very recent. I am sure that the media will have some fun reporting on Biden's statements--especially since he often doesn't know when to stop talking.
When Joe Biden claimed at a Democratic debate last year that he had been “shot at” while visiting Baghdad’s Green Zone, the press didn’t bother to check it out, since Biden’s White House bid seemed unlikely to succeed.

But now that he has been catapulted into contention by virtue of being selected as Barack Obama’s running mate, Biden and such bullet-dodging tales may be subjected to a level of scrutiny that tripped up Hillary Clinton when she falsely claimed to have come under sniper fire in Bosnia.

And Republicans would have a litany of apparent inconsistencies and embellishments to pick through...
I saw an awesome video clip of back when Biden was standing right next to Obama some months ago and Biden openly delcared that Obama wasn't right for the job, that he was too inexperienced. Man, the look on Obama's face. Wow. And yet he still has chosen Biden as his running mate. These Dems are really something.

Biden also called Obama a Johnny come lately and a copycat:
Wilmington, DE (August 1st, 2007 ) – The Biden for President Campaign today congratulated Sen. Barack Obama for arriving at a number of Sen. Biden’s long-held views on combating al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Much of what Senator Obama has proposed Senator Biden has already initiated or accomplished.
ha, wow. I guess we'll have to just wait and see how much worse the Republicans will be next week, with Romney still a possible VP candidate..

I think it hurts him with the Hillary crowd for sure. I makes his "Change" campaign look ridiculous. I think the last VP choice this bad was Quail, or the guy who was on the ticket for less than a month because they found out he'd been in a mental hospital.

I've been reading a little bit further on this and some commentaries are saying that Obama probably chose Biden b/c of his age and experience. They say it is a sign that Obama and his camp are finally acknowledging that Obama's gross lack of experience really is a problem. So he chose Biden because he recognizes he needs a seasoned partner for credibility. I think this is likely true but what appalls me is that fact that this begs the question, Does President Obama plan to lean on Vice President Biden during his entire 4 years in the White House? Because that's how it looks to me. 'Cause we all know Obama can't do the job, period.

Thing is, I know nothing about Biden. Like, zilch. I have just heard he is quite gaffetastic and has a big mouth.

My husband and I were discussing that, and his comment was "Well, now we know who will be running the show" (speaking of Biden). To me, it certainly looks like Biden will be the one actually guiding things, though I admit I still don't know a whole lot about Biden (I'm learning, though).

Did you see the video clip from the other morning (yesterday?) when Obama officially introduced Biden as his running mate? It was awesome. He slipped up and in a very grandiose manner intro'd Biden as "the next President of the United States" and then after a pause corrected himself to "next Vice President of the United States". What a mess. It's like messing up a wedding. You can't get that moment back. Even if you correct yourself on the spot you can't get back that exact moment. It's ruined forever. Forever, it will go down in history that Obama, would-be Pres, intro'd his running mate as "the next President". I love it.

EDIT: Here's the awesome vid:

What a shame that Biden is a pro-choice Catholic. If it's one thing about a politician that make my blood boil, it's this.

I think it was George Will on This Week this morning who refered to the ticket as a "Kangaroo Ticket"-- weak legs in the front, strong legs in the back...

I think the excommunication of a vice-president of the United States will send an awesome message to pro-life Catholics.

Biden's old and probably won't hurt Obama, unless he has a weapon of some sort.

Sweet. And Michelle Malkin is calling them "Smarmy and Smirky". And another blog, not even related to politics is calling them "BamBI". As in Obama and Biden. That's awesome.

Let the games begin.

His weapon is his mouth. I can see him lording over Obama when Obama gets all cocky, as he's known to do, and Biden bringing him down with, "We both know why I'm here. To do your job for you. So you just simmer, little man."

A commentator on Canadian news said that he thought that Biden was on the ticket to do Obama's dirty work. That basically the campaign is gearing up to be really nasty, and Obama doesn't want to look nasty. Biden can say the stuff about McCain that Obama wants to, but would look really bad saying.

Ah, very wise, grasshopper. I bet there is something to that, too.
