Madame Vengier
Let's see...she was a Miss Alaska runner-up (which probably proves she at least probably can be presentable), she's a mother of 5, and one of her sons has down-syndrome. So aside from her skills, she also can bring to the table the vote of working women, other women, large families, and people who are concerned about true compassion for those with disabilities. That could provide enough swing for McCain to win, especially if some Hilary supporters are too ticked to elect Obama. Good move, McCain.
She supports get out of bed with Saudi Arabia and the other countries who hate us but for whom we depend on for oil. She is partially "green". She is against gay "marriage" but has gay friends and is willing to be sensitive to their issues of discrimination. She's good with a budget! She has lots and lots of offer. It's not just she's a Christian, she's a mother, she's pro-life.
SaintOlaf
The speculation that this evens the field in terms of experience is bunk imo. McCain is in good health... the pundits and news channels want you to think that all of the sudden, McCain is on his deathbed and his charges against Obama for lack of experience are now suddenly unfounded. The difference is that Obama himself is inexperienced, while McCain is very experienced, This is still the case even though Obama picked a very experienced running mate in Biden. Also, if McCain wins the chances are pretty huge that he won't run for a second term, since he'll be 76, this sets up one of the most interesting possibilities in 2012, Palin vs Clinton for president? I love it. Great pick, McCain, the gun-toting, moose-burger eating, pro-life, beautiful governor from Alaska is a win in my book.

Big picture, people. Big picture. We know she's pro-life, now focus on other things and SELL THIS WOMAN to your friends, family and colleagues, and everyone you meet. You can't sell a politician just on their pro-life stance. Edited August 29, 2008 by Madame Vengier

Her pro life stance will be striking against Obama's pro abortion and pro infanticide position.
Particularly with an infant with Down's. How many women are talked into aborting their babies who "appear" to have DS? Many, I'm sure.

SaintOlaf
I'm still waiting for them to come out and speak at the rally in Ohio. I wrote Palin off because she is so much of a libertarian-minded conservative that I didn't think that McCain, or the leftists in McCain's team, would want her around. But I am thinking that I may vote for the GOP ticket. #1 - I simply want her in the White House #2 - It's people like her that will save the GOP from a total slide to the left #3 - She adds some credibility to the tickets conservative claims (because McCain has none of his own)
Madame Vengier
I'm almost thinking this was a set-up with McCain from the start. Maybe he pulled this "kind of liberal" act just to bring in the more left-of-center folks, while he himself knew he would choose a real conservative, thus ensuring a great chance to win the conservatives, the centrist folks, and maybe some Dems fed up with Obama. He may know he won't make it four years, either. The man is elderly and not 100% well, though he is a fighter. Palin for Pres 2012!! Jindal for Vice Pres 2012!! I WILL be voting for McCain-Palin. My conscience is totally at peace. Still NOT, NOT, NOT crazy about McCain but I can live with him, with Palin by his side.
