Era Might Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Is anyone trying to lose weight? Report your progress here. Over the last few months, I've lost 50 pounds, and climbing (or decreasing, as it were). No more of this: And more of this:
lost_in_this_world Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 good for you, let's just say I'm working on losing weight.
CatherineM Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I'm allowed to lose .5 lb. a week. Any more, and the doctor gives me heck.
Christie_M Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 That's awsome Era!! I'm working on it....but no progress....does that count?
littleflower+JMJ Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 After a very bad day today from really great food I officially start my diet tomorrow. I'm excited because I will actually have *time* to work on losing weight these next two months. Now if only I could not mess it up after doing good (which I am promising myself I will do this time) then I will be set!
johnnydigit Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008
And more of this:
peanut butter jelly? i try not to focus on losing weight. rather, i focus on incorporating a healthy lifestyle, which includes exercise, eating healthy, and fasting (only for religious purposes). crash diets only lead to failure. looking at the scale and vanity are the things i'm trying to get rid of. i'd tell myself that checking the scale is a form of monitoring progress, but it really isn't necessary unless you're actually monitoring muscle, fat, and water mass on a daily basis, imo. i guess it's providential that our scales don't happen to work any more too. God bless you all and i pray for your success as i know it is an extremely difficult thing to do nowadays. you need almost a super human strength and willpower to do it, but with God all things are possible so have faith!
the lords sheep Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I've lost 30-some odd pounds since last Christmas (and I'm still hoping to continue...) Good work Era!
CatherineM Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I figured I'd reprint the Seven Habits of Highly Successful Weight Loss Maintainers. This if from the National Weight Control Registry at the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado. These people on the registry have to have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for at least a year. Most have lost much more than that, and kept it off for 3 years. 1. Expect failures, but keep trying. (The only way to fail is to give up) 2. Don’t deny yourself. (Denying yourself just makes you want it more and binge) 3. Weigh yourself often. (Most obese individuals haven’t weighed themselves in years, and have no idea how much they have gained. Just don’t weigh so often that you replace an obsession with food for an obsession for the scale. Once a week or once a month is often enough for most) 4. Do serious planned exercise. (Make it something that you enjoy, can afford, and is convenient so that you can stick with it.) 5. Add little bits of physical activity into daily routine. (Yep, that’s the take the stairs and park farther away stuff) 6. Low fat/High carbo diet. (Any diet that you can stick to will work, but a majority of those on the registry mostly used this approached. Think healthy first.) 7. Eat five meals a day. (It helps balance your blood sugar to avoid cravings, and never lets you get too hungry. It also can help shrink your stomach.) They also found that most of the successful losers had yo-yo dieted for years, and made many unsuccessful attempts to lose weight before finally finding that something that worked. Half of the people lost weight without help from a particular diet plan, so if you can’t afford to belong to a gym or weight loss club, you can still be successful. 60% on the registry reported a family history of obesity, and 66% had been fat kids, so you can over come the “fat gene.” The good news is that if you keep it off for at least 3 years, chances are you will never regain it. The three year mark seems to make a huge change and apparently your metabolism will heal if given enough time. One other thing is that the reason it is so easy to regain weight is because fat gets blood flow. The first fat that burns is the fat closest to the blood vessels, because it is easiest to access. If you have ever had to cut a dog's toenails that were too long, you know that you can't cut them all at once, or you will hit the vein. If you cut half, allow the vein to retract, you can cut the rest in a few days without a blood bath on your hands. It works the same for fat. You have to give your body time to retract those blood vessels back. That's why it gets easier to keep the fat off the longer you have had it off. As to scales, I have taken sledge hammers to them, run over them with a van while laughing manically, and my present scale is pretty much on death row. It is locked up tight pending a lengthy appeal process.
let_go_let_God Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I'm trying to loose weight. My goal is 30 pounds in time for my wedding. By doing so I would be under the weight I graduated high school with. I've been working out with my roomate more now so hopefully it's a good start. God bless- LGLG
Era Might Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 Thanksgiving killed me. I gained almost ten pounds in three days (I don't even know how that's possible, but I digress). Anyway, back on the horse tomorrow.
CatherineM Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 A lot of that was probably water weight. Gravy and dressing have lots of sodium. Flush it out.
XIX Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 chya. You'll vomit before gaining 5 pounds in 3 days, let alone ten.
Lil Red Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 +J.M.J.+ i'll need this thread come, oh, april 25 or so.
MIKOTHEFREAKSHOW Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008
Thanksgiving killed me. I gained almost ten pounds in three days (I don't even know how that's possible, but I digress). Anyway, back on the horse tomorrow.
YEAH!!! i went through the same thing!!! I lost around 22 lbs since September 4, 2008 and I gained 4 of those lbs this week alone. I actually gained 7 of those lbs back but then after I did a #2 it was down to 4 lbs LOL but still, how is that possible. one of the most draining and frustrating things about working out and losing weight is the following lose 5 lbs - around 3 weeks to do gain 5 lbs - around 2 days to do it is so frustrating so so so frustrating. when i see that on the scale, i think "wow i have to be a SLAVE to working out and i cannot waiver not even take a break or i will gain the weight back." that's why since 2003 ive fluctuated in weight 20 lbs from summer to Christmas for 4 years straight LOL =(
IrishSalesian Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I have lost 30lbs since last Spring, I now weigh 320. Still working on it. I go to the gym every tuesday and thursday. I bike 30 mins, and do a little weight lifting. I have changed my diet. I take less portions, and try to stay away from soda.
Andreas E. Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks just by cutting out pop and fast food. (Healthier on the wallet as well.) If I go another 90lbs I'd be back to my high school weight of 180. My only plan is portion control and dancing with my daughters.
dauntingknight Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I am going on a strenuous backpacking trip in New Mexico in July of 2009 and I may have to gain weight in order for me to go. I am tall & skinny. So I will probably have to do this.
