Once the liturgy has begun all baptized Christians should participate in it as a unified whole, i.e., as the Totus Christus. In other words, the liturgical assembly should not be broken into groups once it has been summoned into being by the priest's act of convocation at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Word.
I would agree, but what should be done when the parents AREN'T being the primary educators?

I think that's probably why there are things like Children's Liturgy of the Word, now. It's either take the kids out or have them playing with cars and dolls and coloring and not paying attention at all anyway, because their parents won't make them....
So the REAL problem is the parents. So CLOW is basically something that is trying to cover parents who can't parent??!!

that's your parents job, not necessarily the Church's job. it's the Church's job to help your parents do their job better, but the primary educators of the faith are THE PARENTS.
True as it may be, and I say this respectfully, please don't judge my family. Like MS said above, not every family is properly catechized and therefore aren't equipped to fulfill the responsibility of the children's formation in the right way.

The real source of all of this is bad theology / ecclesiology.

Well....

Generally speaking, it is the parent's job. But there are cases where the mother has to deal with a lot of kids and the father is not there nor likely to ever be there. (remember that aunt I told you about, eagle_eye?) In cases like that, I think it would be a good idea to have something similar to help the mom because she can't make all of her kids behave at the same time.

This is EXACTLY why this thread is inappropriate. When a group of people come together to criticize others, the group will begin to criticize each other.

You mean the little thing about how this thread has seemed to encourage malicious gossip and scandal; overall encouraging people to sin mortally in general?

It is not a personal criticism of missy or anyone else - no parent is perfect nor succeeds in all areas of childraising.
Pointing out whose responsibility it is to educate children is simply pointing out the truth. Parents are the primary educators in all aspects of life.

Yes sir, that is EXACTLY what I am saying. How are we going to bring anyone to the faith if we, Catholics, say bitter things about other Catholics?

Discussing and offering suggestions or opinions on various subjects is why most people post in the first place. No one is forced to participate in any thread on PM.

It is true that the intellectual formation of children in the faith is primarily the role of parents and only secondarily the role of catechists, but the point of the criticism being made in connection with so-called "Children's liturgy of the word" is that it is theologically unsound to divide up the Church once it has been summoned into being by the priest at the beginning of the liturgy.

That said, if there needs to be a "study session" for children that is focused upon the biblical readings proclaimed at the liturgy, that type of "study session" should take place before or after the liturgy, and not during it.

This was a genuine question, so if anyone has an answer, I would really like to know.

This thread was created to complain about other Catholics and the way they behave at Mass.

i wasn't judging your parents at all. sorry if you read it that way, but i was just making a statement of fact. i, in reality, don't know you or your parents at all, and therefore could not judge you or them.
